I am almost settled on a mini cooper for my next car (August). But I dont know whether to go for the CVT or manual transmisssion. Ive heard mixed reviews. What are your thoughts? Ive heard there are stalling and software problems with the CVT. Any thoughts or experiences? Tell me, whether you are a CVT or manual owner, would you switch given the chance? Why? Help me decide what to do! I want performance and to save a little money, but then again the CVT is only 1250$. This will also be my first manual car if I go that route. Im going for a test drive this week (most likely). YES!!
Thanks,
Photonicdj

Gosh...you really don't want to start ANOTHER thread on that, do you??? Try using the search function (at the top of this thread, to the right of your screen) to tap into previous threads.

It's not that it's not an important question, it's just that it's been discussed so often before.

My wife just ordered a new Cooper. (I'm on my 2nd) She thought she'd go with the CVT but after driving it, she came back and said it took the character & fun out of driving the car. That's about how I feel about it too. Its too much fun to wring the little bugger out!

Go totally by your test drive! You'll be the one inside the car driving it. When you go zooming past someone on the road they won't care or know the difference. Either way, you'll be leaving the in the dust!

If you choose the sporty 5 speed, then I'd suggest you find a friend with a man tranny who will teach you how to drive it before you get your MINI. Just a couple times around a parking lot and a couple times on the street and you'll know the ropes.

CVT vs Man? MC vs MCS? White top vs solid?
Who cares. Drive what "you" like.
The car is just plain fun anyway you drive it.

i'm a cvt owner currently, but i've been thinking about trading it in for a S.
drive them all before you make a decision, you're the one paying for it!

This has been hashed, rehased, argued, debated, flamed blah blah blah.

And, the bottom line is that if you're seriously asking, then there are many threads that provide great information. If it's another setup to start a debate, we've all grown smarter to the bait threads.

>>Our bond is not with manuals vs. CVT. It's with the love of a great car and empathy in having to wait so long for it!

My thoughts exactly. Great work Brownielocks

Actually, a better answer would be to test them both, and which ever one you like best, are more comfortable with, and better fits your driving style/traffic conditions is the best...

Definitely. The best one is the one you feel best suits you (as long as it's a manual).

Unless you have a physical disability that would prevent you from driving a stick get a manual!

This is of course my own personal preference. Drive what you like and try to test drive both.
