This is odd, but a good idea to help them sell the gas hogs!

Wonder why they threw in the W-body cars (Impala, Monte, LaCrosse, GP)....I keep reading that the new Impala is selling good anyway. Looks like the cars would benefit from a regular rebate or sale more than a gas promotion.

Probably..

because people are concerned more now about gas costs....

Buying behaviour makes little sense. If you price a car at $25k with a $2k rebate, it sells better than a $23k car. People "percieve" that they've recieved more "value".... Stupid, but it works....

But I'd say bad news for GM...

If I needed a new gas guzzler, I'd get one of these, and drive the snot out of it! At $2/gal effective gas cost, it would have to be worse than half as bad as the cars I drive now to cost more to drive..... And GM would have a heck of a bill to pay as well.

WOOT! Now I can afford that H2!!!!

Also note GM shares rose 4 cents to close at $24.48 on the New York Stock Exchange

Looks like the investors think its a good idea

Those things suck way to much gas even if GM is subsidizing it.

The Corvette isn't included, so screw it!
GM is really counting on many stupid people to buy this convoluted logic.

Just another ad gimmick.. it's only on the expensive models with onstar.. I'm sure there is a cap and other limitations... just have to read the fine print.

Yet another example..

of GM having to deal with the fact that it's game plan is mostly based on last years success, without anticipating the movements in the marketplace. I guess a subsidy is better than having to give them away, or crush them!

my Econ 101 tells me increase of demand drive up the price.. If what GM did really works, we will suffer by the high gas price.
What are those idoit in GM thinking?! Aren't they have better plan to save the planet.

Ya, don't try to work on more fuel-efficient models or anything.

when companies and people get poor, they loose vision of the long term
and just concentrates on short term just to make it through.

Actually, its brilliant marketing ...

Instead of handing out $2500 or $3000 rebates up front. No more rebates but hand out dribs and drabs of money monthly that most likely will not add up to the rebate cost upfront. Especially since with the magic of compound interest and inflation, we all know that money today is worth more than money tomorrow ...

Do the math ... if the average person changes vehicles every 3 - 4 years, and most do, it will most likely be cheaper than rebates

Absolutelty brilliant
