WHEW! The Motor Is Finally Apart!
Hey Rick the hot setup for an RX7 is a race cam & a three angle valve job.
I had a friend that used to race one in ITA with a big Crane Cams sticker on the rear window. Someone was actually going to protest him because he had a hot cam that wasn't allowed. The chief Steward about peed himself laughing.

Teehee, the Mustang is being moved back up to the front of the shop for a while. Time to do some bodywork.
Found the stroker kit I wanna get.
Speed-O-Motive sells a 351 to 426 Cleveland kit. Thats all stroke and not even including the bore I plan on doing too. As far as I know, I can safely go .040 to.060 overbore on a stock block. I was going to get a new block, but I think my 2 bolt main, 73 block will do for this.
Also, ive been doing research into a multiple carb setup for a cleveland and i'm not having any luck with anything but a tunnel ram.
I'd really like to get a six pack setup, but dual quads would be cool too.
Right now I think i'm gonna be limited to looking for old, original pieces.
What else. Well, the tranny is just about good. Needs a rebuild and a shift kit, but thats it. Rear end will be getting a 3.55 gearset and thats all done.
I think the timeframe now is to have the car done to be unveiled at either Spring or Summer Carlisle or, go up to Detroit and show it for the first time on Woodward. We will see, but either way, it will be shown at the All American Muscle Car booth at any of the events.
See the link in my sig to check out the company.
Anyways, pics to come when the restoration restarts!

If you really want to just stuff cubic inches in there...
start looking at crate motors and just make the top end look old. That way you can keep your unmoleted cleveland block stored away somewhere (unless it's nothing special, then mill away!). Latest Mustang Montly had a nice article on to restomod conversions, from rack and pinion steering to halogen headlights... Worth a read for ideas on modern drivability. I don't know of cleveland six-packs, but I'm sure a dual quad set up is doable. What about the trick new FI systems? There are some that look like early FIs and some that look like the nice Webbers that stick out through the hood with those 8 nice small horns!

Nah, its just a 73 2v motor, it was a smog motor with crappy heads. The block is all that will be re used. Its just a 2 bolt late 73 block, nothing special in my eyes. If it was a 4 bolt main boss block or something, i wouldnt touch it.
I'm not big on crate motors. never have been. none of our cars run crate motors. When you build them at a shop and assemble them yourself like we do, you get a little more for the money. I can get exactly what I want instead of picking from a list.
It would be cool to just leave it a single quad setup and keep the orignial air cleaner and stuff, since I plan on keeping the stock valve covers and i'm still looking for a set of boss 351 manifolds.
eh, little crap to work out, i have a little time to figure it all out, lol.

I didn't call them....
but the last line on their "in stock" list is what you're looking for....

Yeah, they definetly wanted way too much for the boss manifolds. so headers it is.
Most of the motor is sorted out for the time being.... oh yeah they did this too....

Yay, the doors are getting the works too, along with the fenders soon.
hopefully in primer before the end of the week!!!

I think you'll find...
or probably even know, that the NOS parts are more expensive and usually work worse than modern performance parts. Metallurgy CAN be a lot better now, and getting stronger, lighter, or (with the aid of CAD/CAM) flow better is pretty easy if you give up on the NOS look. A way to keep a lot of stuff looking "period" can be with the use of the right paints and the like under the hood.....
But it's good to see more progress!

Yeah, i was just hoping to keep it as close to factory as i could under the hood, but oh well. I was going to just have a set of boss manifolds extrude honed or something of the like. But not for $600 for just manifolds!!
Ive found a nice set of ceramic coated headers at summit that i'm going with.

The body is all blocked, I need to finish the bumper up front and some small trim.
Had an interior fiasco tonight. The paint and dye I bought and paid out the *** for, is the wrong color!!! Its WAY to light to be ginger.
I need to pinf a new source for paint now, probably the paint store, and find some darker dye... whoopty doo im excited.

Other than that, its coming along great. I decided to just replace both floors. They only had pinholes, but I said screw it, and put 2 new fulls in.
