What brand? Hooker? Also, do you know if the header size is universal for that engine block? (289, 302, 351?)

no no, not headers, stock exhaust manifolds. They are Hipo manifolds that came on the Boss 302 and the Boss 351

The headers fro a 260-289-302-351 Ford SB should all be the same. Thats with the exception of the Boss 302, which is a cleveland head.

i'll see if i can nab some pics of a 71 Hipo manifold....
My motor, from the Cleveland engine family, is a completely different motor, so, none of the SB Ford parts are interchangeable (there are a few exceptions to that though...)

I think thats how we got mixed up..

How common is it to put a 289 intake manifold on a 302? Is there any performance advantage?

the 289 HiPo gives some benefit over stock manifolds..

depending on year. But it's cast iron, and doesn't compare to a header. They're expensive, and the real only reason you'd do it is if you wanted an exceptionally stock look with slight performance gains.

But you can stay "period correct" by going to the TriYs that Shelby used in the early GT-350s, and get the benefit of a header as well.

Im not sure what year the intake manifold is. I know the engine is a 68 4v 302. Wasnt the hipo 289 the k code? How much power increase do you think there would be if the hipo 289 manifold is on there?

Some stuff on building cleveland motors...

Found this... http://www.mustangsandmore.com/ubb/351Ctips.html

And I just was looking in the latest Mustang Monthly, and PRo-Motorsports makes bumpsteer kits for your year mustang.

Also, I saw a kit for rack and pinion on up to 70 mustangs, but can't find the reference. If there's one for yours (72, right) I'd say go for it. the ford steering box is only good if you like a dead spot in the center!

Also, check to see if you can get a pan-hard bar for the rear. It will improve the handling like you won't believe!

Well, i sold the mustang to another family member, lol, now the circle of ownership continues!!!!

Its not leaving the family at least, so i will always be able to see it.

The mustang was getting a bit (when i day a bit, that means a few grand) more than i can afford....

It looks like im gonna be looking for something a bit more afordable.

Ive wanted to build a VW for a while, ever since i gave up my Karmann Ghia to buy my MINI.

hmm... passat gl Wagon here i come!!!

Very nice car Rick! Mine was a red convertible, but it didn't look as good as yours there.

I just wish the car would be driven. it just keeps getting moved around all over the place.

It was driven from Euclid Foreign with a brand new motor about 1/2 mile down the street to the bodyshop, then from the bodyshop 2 miles away back to its resting place in storage!

I love nice cars, but when they cease to be driven & become driveway art they lose interest for me. Yep drive that puppy Rick.

Guess it's either stop modding the MINI or finish the project car. My .02 ,your MINI is pretty darned nice so I'd get on with the project.

Opps, I see you've sold the project. Best carry on modding the MINI, that is all.

Argh, i swaer the car will never be finished.

Ghia = SOLD!

the mustang was just sitting there in a storage locker, so i got a few buck together and its back where it should be.

Then, i got ANOTHER project, an 85 GSLSE RX7. Its a rare car, but i'm probably just going to make a racecar out of it, its a bit rust, and not all of the original parts are there, so it will probably get a v8 swap and use it as a strict drag car.

I LOVE projects!!

The frame is tweaked, it was in an accident. But i figure, the front tires will be off the ground most of the time, so what does it matter?

You are learning the hard way...

one project at a time! FWIW, the last Mustang Monthly had a nice article on things to watch out for in building motors, and one of the previous issues has one on aftermarket heads (And I think there was some clevand stuff in there as well). An issue this summer had a nice build of a 351C.

Crush the RX-7 and put the money into the Mini or the Mustang.....

Just a thought....

Matt
