On the Mini Marketplace forum there is an ad for a six speed trannie and axles by jayuuey of San Francisco CA 94122. His name is Anthony Evans or Antonio Evans with an email of yasubamarine@gmail.com. I thought i bought this from him - sending him over $1000 for the parts and to cover shipping via PayPal friends and family. I never received the items. All I received was emails from other people asking me for money to pay for shipping. Allegedly the parts were sent mistakenly to a Karen S in Kansas who also requested more money to send them on. I contracted with FedEx to go to the Kansas address I was given only to discover that it is an empty building.
This guy cannot be trusted. He has not offered any refund only claiming that it is my fault that I won’t continue to pay the shipping charges that I keep getting emailed about.
I am probably violating some forum rules with this post but I believe the forum users should be aware of this bad person. I have been involved in the car hobby/sickness for over 40 years and have never been ripped off, let alone like this. I am filing paperwork in San Fran small claims court thanks to an attorney buddy of mine who is local so I hope to make Anthony Evan’s life a little miserable. Further - unless you know the individual do not use the Friends and Family feature on PayPal. You have no recompense when things go south such as this.I will report him to PayPal for his actions. Thank you. Be careful.
Sorry to hear you got scammed. There really is no safe place for person-to-person shopping for used parts on the internet anymore. This day and age, anything over $50 is NOT going to be paid by "Friends and Family". If communication is good, then maybe front a little extra to cover PayPal fees as a good faith gesture.
Well that sucks a big one as they say... best place to talk about this is out in the open as you are. He gets what he deserves, hopefully nobody else falls victim!
Another victim of the NAM marketplace. Yet NAM (internet brands) refuses to even put one safeguard in place, not even a sticky at the top with some suggestions to identify possible scams. Unbelievable.

ALWAYS goods and services (add 3% if necessary) unless you know the seller personally.
I've been buying and selling on the internet for quite some time, and I've picked up some good practices along the way. Along with good communication, always verify. One of the forums I was member had buy-sell guidelines that made it much easier to verify sellers. I try to use some of those guidelines when I am looking to purchase something on line. If you can get decent communication with a seller, make a simple request for a picture with a hand-written note that includes a name and date for verification. A simple request, and if the seller is serious, they will almost 100% comply. If they are trying to scam you in any way, they will start to balk at it. If you get any push-back, walk away.
Hopefully, your next internet transaction won't be as disappointing.

Always a good idea to check the history of the seller.
NEVER use 'friends & family' for purchases from someone who isn't in one of those categories. Not to be a d**k, but honestly - that's why the feature is there. You're sending money off in to the ether with no recourse, it's incredulous to me that people are willing to do this. Use Paypal, at least you have some recourse.
If you're planning to physically meet to exchange, make it a public place; get contact info; leave an itinerary with someone; and DO NOT ARRIVE WITH MORE CASH THAN YOU EXPECT TO PAY.
I’ve had an similar experience in looking for 18” OEM Wheels on several mini forums.
The sellers who contacted me all claimed:
1) to have an uncle that had a set for sale and to contact him at some dubious address
or
2) seller had them but would only sell via friends and family (PayPal without recourse). Thats never an option for me.
When I requested a phone call or a preferred FaceTime chat, to verify, the discussion when silent, crickets.
one other common thread was all sellers were recent members to the forums with a venture of a month at most.
It really is buyer beware. Never select family and friends unless it’s a verified long term forum member.
One seller offered offered to sell me a pristine set of wheels, SHIPPED across country for $500. When I requested FaceTime call he dropped the price to $250
Someone stole my listing for 18' OEM wheels a few days ago. Thankfully the buyer sent me his number... when I contacted him we found out that we were being scammed by someone by the member name of .dennis email was sff312319@gmail.com (beware of that I.D.) luckily I live close to the buyers daughter and we got the deal done. This is his picture of the wheels
That’s rough, mate. Really sorry you had to go through that – scammers like that ruin it for everyone. You’re spot on about not using Friends and Family unless you properly know who you’re dealing with. Same in crypto too; trust is everything.
