Litchfield CT meet - July 20th
EDIT: Date has been decided on - July 20th. There are a lot of other dates tossed around in this thread, but July 20th is the one to remember... Disregard all my babble here, and check CooperSpeed's post two below this one for the nitty gritty.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks Cooperspeed for getting moving on another CT meet already! I thought I'd start a new thread for it, just to keep things organized. I'm up in Boston, but I grew up in Litchfield and LOVE those roads.
Popey's restaurant in Morris would be a great meeting place (though their lot can get kind of crowded on nice days) - ice cream, burgers, etc. with outdoor seating. Gooseboro drive-in in Bantam would be good, too. Or Cooperspeed's house (thanks again)... I guess we could have a meeting place and a finish place.
Some suggestions for roads:
Personally, I'm very partial to the roads heading out through Milton to Cornwall. Milton Road is great, Litwin Road is great, Blue Swamp Road is gorgeous, and it goes straight into Great Hill road, Essex Hill Road, Everest Hill Road, and lots of other great ones. Cornwall has some dowright scary roads - they're twisty, but they also go straight up/down. Cornwall would also make for a great loop coming around into Goshen or Canaan (the road over Canaan Mountain is a GREAT one, although dirt for a mile or so). I love Lake Waramaug too, but I think you guys already did that one this past weekend.
Cooperspeed, where do you live? My parents' house is on South Street, near Gallows Lane. I'll be down for the road race in June.
Chris

Any objections to July 20th? I guess we might as well throw that date out there for now, and just change it if anything comes up. I'm going to get out all of my old biking maps and remember where the cool roads are. Around Bantam Lake is definitely nice. How long a drive are we looking for - a couple of hours with stops?
Well there are lots of roads out there. We could go through all of Litchfield, Torrington, Milton, Goshen, Morris, Bantam. We could make this an all-day thing like the New Milford meet was.
So far I think we should meet at the Aerospace building, go for a drive, have lunch(possibly at my house), go for another drive, then call it a day.
I think July 20th sounds good. Would you guys want to do it maybe earlier, like June 15th or 29th?
Well I am going to get a map today and plan out a nice route. I will take a practice run this weekend perhaps.
I will keep all of you posted.
If we eat at my house, you all will prorbably have to chip in a few bucks for food. Just letting you know.

BTW, not sure if I mentioned it already, but I posted some pics from the 12 Curves Meet in the regional gallery. Anybody else going to the opening of the Italian Job sponsored by New Country on Thursday?
I could do June 22nd; that date would actually be ideal for me. The only problem is that June 21st is the Mount Washington run, so maybe some people might not be around, or might not be up for back to back events. I can't do the Mount Washington thing because my friend is having a law school graduation party that day, so I'll be in town that weekend.
June 29th sounds good to me as well.
One route that I think would be sweet would be (from PT Aerospace) up Maple Street to Litwin Road, Headquarters Road, Blue Swamp Road, and then down Great Hill Road into Cornwall, which hits Valley Road, which goes to Essex Hill Road, which is about as small and twisty and frightening as roads get in CT. From there we could loop around through Cornwall and Goshen (Music Mountain Road and Cream Hill Road are nice), or even head up Route 7 to Sharon and Salisbury, where there are lots more amazing roads.
I like the idea of splitting it up into two different drives, with lunch in between.

I picked up a Litchfield County map at AAA today. I will try and map out a good route. Maybe it would be ebtter if we met at the High School, we will work it out. Chrisnl, are you close to Litchfield? When I get the route planned out, want to go for a test drive?

Ill test it with you. I ran the test with GMINI and it was a lot of fun. Also got two way radios.

I'm in Boston. I'll be down for the road race the 2nd weekend in June, but so will all of my friends, so I'm guessing I'll be busy. Seriously, I can envision most of these roads turn for turn in my head, having bicycled them fanatically for many years, so feel free to give me a call and run stuff by me. PMed you my #.

I could run with you as well. Not much good since June 29th is 4th of July week and I've got beach time to tend to way far away. Might just be able to make the meet before i go, dunno. Would love a preview in lieu of or in addition to.

I was on my way home form girlfriends house (Maple Street) and decided to head over towards Milton and check out some of the backroads. Blue Swamp Road IS A MUST! That would be such an awesome road to motor on in the day. That got me thinking to how many roads like that are lost in the Litchfield Hills area. It sounds like Chrisnl knows his way around there, so he needs to give some input.
I will make the final route plans this weekend, and the go for a ride to get a rough idea of the roads.
I would really like it if GMINIO could come along. He did a great job with the New Milford meet, and it would be great to have with us for this one.
What about June 1st or 8th? If we are to do it June it needs to be the 1st, the 8th, the 15th, the 22nd, or the 29th. If non of those dates are good then we will have to push back past July 4th. Keep me posted on what dates are good.
Antsmini, Tuesday night works for me. Want to come along for the ride GMINIO? We will be meeting at the Danbury Mall at 7ish in front of the Filenes. Thats is for Teusday just so people don't get confused and think that is when the actual meet is...
This meet is gonna ROCK!

Yup. and YUP!!!!!!!!!
See you there for the run through. If you have a route figured by then - that's amazin! You're off school tho, correct?
Running the 15th looks good to me. I'm afraid you might lose cars being so close to the Mt. Washington run, though.
