Help with IceLink Plus

Hello Everyone,

I'm a newbie here. I just purchased a 04 MCS a week ago and I love it! All the threads here are incredibly informative. Thank you!

Sorry my first post is to ask for assistance, but I've about had it with IceLink Plus.

So here's the situation,

I purchased a used IceLink v2.02 plus to play my 4 gig Nano (1st gen) through my stock radio w/ nav (connection in the back where the changer is suppose to go).

I hooked up the IceLink late last night and everything worked fine except I couldn't see any titles on my HU so I started fiddling around and downloading updates from densionusa.com. All of a sudden, the title showed up on the Nav screen, but it showed as a telephone call. This screen was so annoying because I couldn't get it to turn off. I would switch to the nav map and the telephone screen with the title would flash back. I thought I did something wrong.

So I downloaded the carif_clear.mp3 file and played it. After this it was all downhill. Sure enough the telephone screen disappeared, but so did all functionality of the IceLink and Ipod. The only thing on the ipod screen now was a refererence to go install.dension.com to configure the IceLink.

:(

I figured out that I must have deleted the BMW firmware. I downloaded the BMW's firmware according to the instructions on the website and played it before I docked the ipod, but everytime I dock it, the ipod pauses and goes to the "install.dension screen."

I can't get the IceLink to update with the BMW firmware for the life of me. I don't know what else to do. I tried calling dension this morning and they said they haven't supported the IceLink Plus for 8 months.

I tried unplugging the IceLink to hopefully have it reset. I've tried reseting the ipod. I've even tried unplugging the car battery.

All deadends.

Please help, if anyone knows or can suggest a solution.

Thanks,

Gene

Unfortunetly if you have NAV, you will not be able to use the text function. As you noticed, they use the phone channel to push text and the system sees it as an incoming call thus overiding your map. 2B2 is the latest firmware that we have for BMW/MINI. I would download it from densionusa.com and run it to reset your Icelink.

I've tried to do the update, but everytime I play the "start_update.mp3," file and dock the ipod.. it pauses and will not proceed beyond the "visit install.dension.com screen."

FWIW, the NAV screen overwrite is normal for the ice link. However, if you are able to get it working again the way it was originally before you changed the firmware/software, there is a simple work around for this issue.
  1. To stop the mp3 tag data from overwriting your NAV screen, simply double tap the NAV menu button, then select the map view again. This locks up the text display on the HU too, but playback still works exactly as expected.
  2. To get tag display on again after the NAV screen is locked (per step 1), double tap the phone icon on the MFSW controller. Tag data will again be displayed on the HU and NAV screen.
  3. Also, if you leave the ipod playing when you leave the car for >15 minutes, when you come back the mp3 tag display is visable only on the HU and no longer overwrites the NAV screen. This is the state I'm in most of the time and I'm happy with the ice link now. I've refused the "upgrade" to the dice unit due to lack of playlist display.
I hope this information helps you out some.

Edit: You did visit the support page at Dension to update to version 2.B2 ice link firmware, yes?

Email me directly and I can provide the update, as well as detailed instructions on how to perform the flash.

Couldn't find a solutions with Tom,

Thanks anyway. Think I'll give up and just buy the Dice module. What a waste of 85 bux.

No need to throw in the towel just yet. If you would like to send the module to me, I can see if it can be programmed on our bench.

Forget it minigee - for $108 you can get a new DICE module that will work, be under warranty and not have to be programmed. You can use the wire connectors off each side of the Ice>Link Plus which brings the price down from the $149. Look on Tom's site, I just bought mine today.
