Official Mini iPod Interface instructions?????

My dealer will sell me the Ipod Interface kit but has no installation instructions. They want to charge me $175 to install it instead. Grrr.

I am not daunted about installing the kit, but I would like a guide.

Do you know if instructions exist?

Thanks!

ipod interface instructions & info

I'm in the process of researching ipod interfaces for my 04 MCS and four other cars. Crutchfield has a bunch of information on the subject free to download. Go to www.crutchfield.com . ..............(MTR ON)............mgg

I found this but it is NOT very helpful. "Words" would be nice.

Anything else out there?

ipod interface (more)

I went through the same thing with my rally lights. It's almost like a secret code specifically written for MINI factory techs. Try reading up on ipod interfaces in general. Once you understand the concept and how they work (not at all complicated) you can probably tough it through. l understand and appreciate your reluctance to tear into the dash!.......................(MTR ON)................mgg

I recently put the IPOD adaptor in my 06 MCS and it was fairly easy. The key thing to remember is to take your time and be careful.

Here is a great web page that describes in detail how to disassemble many parts of your MINI.

http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?f...aq_faq_removal

The instructions for the IPOD adaptor itself should either come with it, or you can get it here.

http://www.motoringfile.com/2004/12/...l_instructions

These instructions are for version 1.0, but they aren't much different except you won't need to cut the wires.

Hope this helps.

Well, I am still on the fence, actually. I hear there will be an "updated" MINI interface sold through the dealers sometime and am waiting for that. If anyone knows when that is due I would like to find out.

If you do something before I do...let me know!

Why use an iPod at all?

I have had my MINI for 3 days. One of the first things I discovered is that the OEM stereo is capable of reading MP encoded discs. So I burned my entire Beatles library onto one disc, (with 100 megs left over)

I put the disc in, and it plays.

TRK001 - 001 is Meet the Beatles, Track One
TRK001 - 002 is Meet the Beatles, Track Two
TRK002 - 001 is Rubber Soul, Track one
TRK002 - 002 is Rubber Soul, Track 2

etc.

I have about 12 hours of music on ONE disc. And don't need any mods to do it.

By the way, the dealer told me that the OEM stereo would not do this. They definitely need more training!

Very cool. Not being an audiophile, how do I make MP encoded recordings?

MP3 Encodings (RIPS)

Brad, assuming you have a computer with a CD drive, you just put the original CD in and hit RIP. In Windows XP, it is a built-in process. I prefer to use a program called FREERIP. Just google it and download it. It is safe. Once the tracks are on your hard drive, burn them to a CD-R (NOT a CD-RW) as a data disc.

If you need more info, then just send me an email. dmsconsultingllc@comcast.net

I will be happy to help

David

I highly doubt this will happen since the Mini's system is changing next year to MOST and away from ibus.
