IceLink crashes iPod Photo

Not only do i have the slow 'reaction' time to fwd and track using the ipod Photo with the IceLink+.. I also have an Ipod crash at least once a day.

If i fwd to a track, or rewind, the IceLink display will change to a "...." and the ipod locks up (while still playing the original song!) The display on the Ipod has the Large font icelink display with the track name. But is locked up, even after removing it from the cradle. No response at all from the ipod and I have to force a reboot of the ipod.. and even that takes about 5 minutes to let the ipod sit!

I can't recommend the Icelink+ with the Ipod Photo60

I had the same issue with the ice-link+ and an ipod photo 60. Mine was rebooting everyday and locking up, but it was also causing electrical problems with my car. I had to bring it to the dealership and they found the problem to be the ice-link grounding the kbus. Apparently they can fix it I think, but the SA told me it had to be either removed or replaced with the MINI ipod adapter. When I picked it up the tech said it could have been fixed easily and they could do that, but the SA never told me that. So...I have been using the MINI ipod adapter now for a couple months and it doesn't freak out nearly as much. The ipod requires a reboot maybe once every 2-4weeks now. I miss the ID3 tag display though.

The ground fix is rather easy... I may persue that myself. Its moving one wire to a different connector hole.

We have: 05 MCSa & 06 MCS, IceLink Plus Trunk mount in each, 15g 3rd Gen iPod & 40g Photo iPods.

----------

my wife's 40G Photo is also much more fussy with the ice Link than my 15G 3rd gen. Typically does the "..." and has to be rebooted. My 15G will do it now & again, but no where as often as her photo.

We got one of those "Big Font Crashes" yesterday - our first. Took over 8 hours for it unfuss itself enough to reboot. I had no control of the iPod at all - i could not even force a reboot.

I did the "move the ground wire mod" when i installed it. It had a terrible static noise until i did. No notice of changes in crashing before or after that.

It is very frustrating. There is a good bit of coin wrapped up in those two products, I would like them to work a little better together.

No solutions yet - i'll be watching this thread!

I drove to work this morning (~45 minutes) with no crashes. I only skipped 4 or 5 songs and changed albums 3 or 4 times. I think the crashes are related to skipping songs.

Do you mean using the MFSW to go forward or back between tracks?

that is often where ours takes a dive

When using my Ice-Link Plus, I never use the Dension interface...only the iPod one. I didn't like how the Dension interface functioned, or how the iPod screen looked...so I never use it. And I've been completely trouble free. No crashes, nothing. Maybe that will help.

I confirmed on the way home that changing tracks seems to cause the link to crash. It seemed like that a couple of rapid track changes got one ahead of the other and the very next track change crashed the link between the two.

There is USA Spec product that is similar I have in my Honda that works great with 60GB video ipod and 4gb nano ipod. There is no ID3 tag info on factory headunit, but its only $120 anyway. It charges fine and you can use BOTH factory radio controls, controls by steering wheel, and ipod controls fine.

I am not sure how the MINI/BMW USA spec version works but since I already have the MINI aux input, I will just stick with that.
