Now back to our regularly scheduled program:
Just collected my car from the dealer, flashed with the new V26... but after they blew the first NAV computer when they tried to flash it... Fortunately thay had gotten a new one in case it was needed for my previously-mentioned no-voice problem. Only drawback is that the service part seems to have the old US-E-F options, so I gotta go get the language swapped edition and re-flash the audio <sigh> too bad.
There is one thing in the C's favor... it's one character less. Greater efficency.
If you had an automatic convertible, saying MCSDTa just starts to get too long, IMO. But hey - it's your car, call it whatever you want... I just hope that people don't get too confused!

Sure do like the new V26 software!
Thanks Mike. The Canadian version comes with English, French & D (I guess it's German). I'll try the unhacked version first. Actually I've never tried to update the software. Once I open the file with WinRar, I've found that there are two files inside the folder "bmw v26 software.mdf (288mb)" and "bmw v26 software.mds (only 486 bytes)". Shall I just need to burn the .mdf to a cd with Nero or Alcohol 120%
I've read the HOW-TO and done some searches as well, but no one ever mentions there are two files in the folder.
Thanks again for all your help
Stephen

As far as the distance units go... I believe that those are also related to the language version you select in the Settings menu. Thus, if you use the USA voice option (in order to get the female British voice out of the hacked version), you'll get USA units for sure (e.g. feet instead of yards, meters, etc.).
Note that it's fairly easy to create your own voice-hacked version of the update CD (by simply swaping around/renaming the voice files within the image), and so you can always create your own hacked version that uses your favorite language setting and still has the voice files swapped for the British ones. Doing this shouldn't mess with the language of the text on the display screen nor the distance units used by that particulair language setup (e.g. you could hack the Spanish language setting making it speak British and yet still having Spanish text and metric distance units displayed on the screen).
I hope this helps some...

Usually they do it for free if the car is under warranty.
I am wondering though if he found out anything about the reset stuff that was mentioned in the earlier post by nycmini...
Hi All,
I did a small write-up about the V26 update and it's now available on Motoringfile.com:
A New Look For The MINI's Nav
Nothing new really, but still an interesting read nonetheless.

New NAV Firmware V26. 4-1/60
Thanks for the tip. One more question, do I have to change any setting in the Burn Image window? I'm choosing the lowest speed X4 now. What about the setting of DAO, SAO, RAW SAO ....., the default is DAO/SAO. Shall I just keep it as it is and start burning?
Thanks so much for your help

I'm way out of date on Nav updates, so here is a plea for advice: my car is an '02 with the as stock CD Nav system. I have the voice disabled (on purpose) and no "accept" statment.
Is there some update out there i ahould be using for newer maps, better interface, etc.?
tnx

Just did it sucessfully. Everything worked smoothly. The map indeed is more readable now. Thanks again for everyone's help.

I may try the hacked version later. Since I have no knowledge about ISO at all, I'd like to do more reading and research before upgrading the voice.
Happy camper now

Cheers

The current operating system version for your MINI's MKIII CD-based nav system is 3-1/63. You can check what version you have installed by pressing the "Menu" button which is located just below your nav display, and selecting the "Settings" option. You will see your current version number listed in the upper right-hand corner of the Settings menu (in the format of 3-1/xx, where xx is the current version number of the operating system you have installed). If your operating system is less than "63", then you have an older version that might gain some from doing a system upgrade. However, the current release that everyone is talking about here, doesn't apply to your CD-based system (and so you won't get the new user interface I'm afraid).
You should be able to update your nav system using any version of the BMW operating system update disc that is V22.1 or higher. If I were you, I'd use V24 or V25 and stay away from V26 just in case there happens to be a problem with it on MKIII systems. You should be able to download one of the older versions from here:
http://www.x5world.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=88
As for the maps themselves... You most certainly have an old map data CD in your nav computer. The latest version of the map data CD/DVD is "2005-2". You can purchase a 2005-2 CD for the region(s) you need from your local MINI dealer or from NavTeq themselves. You might even find a copy on eBay for a bit cheaper. Also, if you use eMule, eDonkey, etc., you might find a copy for free. Note that both MINI and BMW map data discs will work just fine (stay away from the BMW CCC discs as they won't work though).
Updating the map data disc will probably make the biggest difference to your system as it will have newer street maps and updated Points Of Interest (POIs) such as restaurants, gas stations, etc. The operating system upgrade will only make minor changes that you may or may not notice (such as a slight speed increase, minor bug fixes, etc.).
I hope this helps some...
