Bug fix?

Does this update fix that stupid bug where if you terminate guidance, it leaves the white line to your destination and continues to try to update it?

No, you still have the white line. It really isnt a bug though, it is purposely left there as a "just in case"..

Just as an update to this - in the USA (miles, not kilometers) mode, the maximum zoom to retain view in the direction of the car is 100 miles. Zooms over 100 miles will revert to "North Orientated". Still, a HUGE improvement over the previous maximum setting (1/2 mile, or 1 mile, I can't remember which)

I love the update though - just did it, worked great... I look forward to seeing it in action in the coming days.

well

Fine, maybe just a big annoyance, or they need an option to completely remove it. If I want to discontinue guidance I shouldn't have to turn off my car completely to get rid of that.

Just stumbled across this thread and installed the new firmware in my MINI. I have to say, that is a drastic visual improvement! I'm very impressed!

Just

finished flashing mine, worked like a charm, first try. I was a bit nervous cause when I flashed to v.25 I hosed my system and had to drop down to v.24 till I got a working copying of 25. Used Alochol 120 to burn a copy of the .mdf file to a cd.

Just update with the new v.26. I really like the new color and icon. But there is only one thing really bother me. The new version makes the vehicle position always show up in the middle of the screen, and I wonder days after days.. the screen will be burned in with a circle mark at the center of the screen.

Don't worry, it's LCD. I used the 'North Pointing' mode on my old 2004 MCS for two years. The 'Circle Triangle' stays parked in the middle of the sceen all the time in that mode. No burn-in.

No need to worry about burn in, The NAV system is an LCD screen and they do not experience the burn problems that CRT and Plasma screens do.

Hi guys, thank you for all your efforts. I can't wait to try the new version. I have a question though. I'm going to install the hacked version with the British voice but I'm living in Canada and we are using the metric system here!
Do you think the British lady can handle the metric system?? Even I'm originally from England, I will still be totally lost if she asks me to make a turn in 100yards It would be nice if someone can confirm with me that she speaks metric as well.
Cheers
Stephen

Stephen,

All the hacked version does is simply swap the British voice files for the USA ones. Thus, unless you have your nav system set (in the Settings menu) to use the USA language settings, you won't hear the British accent at all when using the hacked version (I have no idea what the Canadian language options are set to - French, British English, US English???).

As far as the distance units go... I believe that those are also related to the language version you select in the Settings menu. Thus, if you use the USA voice option (in order to get the female British voice out of the hacked version), you'll get USA units for sure (e.g. feet instead of yards, meters, etc.).

Note that it's fairly easy to create your own voice-hacked version of the update CD (by simply swaping around/renaming the voice files within the image), and so you can always create your own hacked version that uses your favorite language setting and still has the voice files swapped for the British ones. Doing this shouldn't mess with the language of the text on the display screen nor the distance units used by that particulair language setup (e.g. you could hack the Spanish language setting making it speak British and yet still having Spanish text and metric distance units displayed on the screen).

I hope this helps some...

-- MIKE

Anyone have a clue at when this might be available from a Dealer in the US? I would rather not mess with my warranty.

So I love my new NAV, but it does seem to be slower responding than before. I had to drive to a few metings today around LA and found that, in one case especially, I wasn't able to make the turn the NAV suggested. In the past, once I had passed a suggested turn it would nearly immediately update a revised route. Today, when I passed my turn, it took several blocks to catch up. It would just display the new turn as I passed it and then blank for a moment while it found the next turn - but not in time to make it (driving at moderate speed on Victory Blvd in LA - a relatively major thoroughfare).

Good thing I knew where I was going. I'll just have to remember to slow down when I miss my turn. Not a deal breaker - but something to note.

I'm sure that minor problems like that will be fixed in the next release(s). Probably something like V26.1.

Well, I would if I were you...but, then again, I'm not you!

Even with the above noted issue, I'm glad I updated. It just looks too damn good.

No one's really sure... However, with the current rate that MINI USA seems to be getting things done, I'd say that it will be a looong time in the coming (or possibly not at all). Oy!

The position of the

What is the position of the circle or the triangle based on where a turn is? Sometimes I'm driving down a road and come to an intersection, I'll be the first one and the top of the circle is at the intersection, other times the top of the triangle will be at the intersection. What is the distance between those two?

Except when the GPS is off-target (I've seen it miscalculate my position by 15-20 yards), the point of the triangle represents your actual location. The distance between the triangle point and the top of the circle will vary depending on your scale setting, since the circle stays the same size.

Basically, ignore the circle for the most part and pay attention to the point of the triangle - unless of course your car has miscalculated your position.

About a 1/8 of an inch.. I crack myself up.

Of course it would depend on the scale you are viewing

Have you every just used the Route List? Go to Information, select Route List, it shows you a text turn by turn list--I use this all the time, and can switch back and forth from Map to Route List pretty easily.

This way when I'm driving, I won't be confused if the Nav says 105 W but really meaning 105E, just take the 105W/E exit!
