Yeah I got tipped off on this earlier by a "friend". It looks pretty good. I would like more features though---like waypoints--which I understand V24/25 does in the European mode.

BTW, here's a (partial?) list of changes put together by Paul Martin (who has the update installed in his Australian-based BMW X5):

OK

Most of the changes are visual changes, rather than functional changes. Below I have summarised the changes I've noticed so far. (Australian Data & Metric units mentioned):

Version 26
- Shows as 4-1/60 on the Settings Screen

Display
- Boot up ==BMW== slightly different ('better' shades of grey). Not obviously different really...
- Antialiased display (no longer 'blocky') with smooth scrolling
- Colouring improved (water, forests, roads, etc - better contrast & clearer)
- Car 'icon' now clearer (white ring, with blue triangle, with shadow)
- Destination icon is a Chequered Flag
- POI icons are greyscale in white boxes (much cleaner icon design)
- 'City Centre' or 'Suburb Centre' icons are now small grey targets which are more subtle
- Major road labels are more accurate now (M3 instead of 3, for example)
- Use of subtle shadows (road labels, POI icons, car icon)
- Street names are easier to read, but only show at scales of 200m or less
- Landmarks (parks, etc) have a font which looks embossed.
- When zoomed out, cities are labeled with small square next to the name (see images).

- 'Direction of Travel' viewing mode:

- car icon is fixed in its position on the monitor and the map rotates
- rotation is fairly quick and smooth, particularly at lower scales
- this works even when zoomed out to 200km, above which it reverts to a 'North Orientated' view

Function

- POI Icons appear at larger scales (start to be seen at 5km scale cf 2km)
- POI Icons can be switched off (Function under 'Information - General Destinations' called 'Disable Icons')
- When a POI is selected as a destination its icon is replaced by the flag icon
- Route List shows list to the destination even if guidance never started and it updates on the fly.

Minor Glitches
- Some roads & map items appear to not draw properly (can be fixed by just zooming out and back in again).

- Destination Input Map:
- Scrolling is faster but quite jerky

- Smaller Roads (the brown ones) don't show at a scale of 500m (have to be 200m or less, unlike the old system).
- At scales of 1km or less, the 'smaller' yellow roads do not appear unlike the old system
Other

- Accept Screen still gone
- Split-screen for the radio still works.

That's about all that I've noticed so far. I hope this is of some use.

Cheers,

Paul Martin

Definite improvements, but since I prefer using the Route List to avoid confusion while driving, these are just cosmetic changes.

With little fixes on each version like fixing a single word, I guess it's a pretty dramatic update, but I still wish there was a bit of focus on functionality.

As to why the Route List is better?? Here in my town, going up the 405 freeway, if the nav wants me to take the 105E exit, it will say to take the 105W offramp (which is shared). But it won't clarify that before it splits E and West and before you know it, I'm going the wrong way. Maybe if I slowed down, I wouldn't have that problem!

Thanks for posting that list my "friend".

Richard

ALRIGHT! V26 is now available for public consumption. I'm downloading it right now and will share it with everyone just as soon as I've got it fully downloaded.

AWESOME!

Hey "friend", you mind sharing a copy? LOL
Can't wait to hear your impressions. Of course we gotta do the voice mod again to not lose the British female!

The x5world thread seems to suggest that you have to burn the image with Alcohol 120%, at the slowest speed, etc. Unless they changed things for this release, I recall that the OS updates do not have copy protection (even though the map CD does), so this type of excessiveness shouldn't be necessary!

Also, I saw that some X5 people reported their startup BMW logo changed a bit... that also has a me a little concerned that this update might remove the MINI logo and change it to the (new) BMW logo. I'm looking forward to hearing results from you guys first, because I really do want this update!

Okay guys...

Here's the link to where you can find the download. I haven't tried it with my own MINI yet as I'm still downloading the software at this point:

V26 Operating System is here!!

NOTE: IF YOU HAVE A CD-BASED (MKIII) NAV UNIT IN YOUR MINI PLEASE DOOOOO NOOOOOT INSTALL THIS UPDATE AS YOU'LL PROBABLY SCREW UP YOUR NAV SYSTEM. IT IS ONLY FOR USE WITH THE NEWER DVD-BASED (MKIV) SYSTEMS.

If you don't know if your unit is CD-based or DVD-based, go into the Setup (or Set) section of your nav display (off of the main menu screen) and look at the number shown in the upper right-hand corner. If your number is 3-1/xx then you have an older CD-based unit. If your number is 4-1/xx then you have a newer DVD-based unit.

Richard,

Yes, you are correct in that the V26 update will also have to have the mod done to it in order to get the British voice just as was done in the prior unpdates.

Edge,

I'll let you know how it goes as I'm going to install the update today for sure. I've just about got the download finished at this point.

Hi All,

Well, I got it downloaded and installed and let me tell you that the new map interface looks AWESOME! WOW!

I downloaded the image, uncompressed it using WinRar, burned it at full speed onto a good quality CD-ROM using Alcohol 120%, and did the update as instructed over on X5World. The update whent very smoothly with no problems whatsoever (it took less than five minutes total).

I'll have to play around with it a bit in order to grasp all of the changes, but so far it looks great!

I'll be back in a flash with some pics for you...

Oh, and BTW Edge, the MINI logo still displays just fine for me.

I am running on a Mac, do you know of a way for me to burn it to CD using the Mac or will I have to get my hands on a PC to burn the disk?

Hi Jason,

Alas, I'm afraid that I don't do Mac (friends don't let friends drive Macs and all that kind of stuff you know ). Thus, I don't know how you would go about buring the image on a Mac. If you can find an image burning program for the Mac that will burn "Media Descriptor Image Files" (i.e. MDS and/or .MDF files), then you should be able to do it. This is one of the many formats supported by the Alcohol 120% program and is the image format that the V26 image file is currently saved in.

However, I'm not sure about the format of the disc itself... I believe that the nav computer reads PC-formatted disc and so thre might be a problem with a Mac-burned image (I dunno). Thus, you're probably better off getting a friend with a PC to do it for you.

DON'T YA JUST LOVE YOUR MAC NOW? Just kidding...

ISO for MAC person and British Voice

I've tested the ISO and it flashed the firmware of the NAV fine. I have replaced the USA option with the British voice (female). You can use the file at your own risk and I am not liable for any problems caused by the file to your system. I am giving this option for the individuals who do not have an option of using Alcohol 120%. Do what you want with the file. I will try to host the file as long as I can (hopefully 48 hours).

Link:
http://personal.linkline.com/wly/bmw_v26_software.rar

This is the only file that I will be posting. Please refrain from asking me to edit the file back to original configuration.

I just upgraded my 05 MCSA and my sisters 05 MCC and had no problems. The upgrade makes a dramatic difference to the appearance of the Navi screen.

I will also host this firmware upgrade on my site.
Link The file is compressed to 97mb and will decompress to approx. 200.

A very worthwild upgrade

Do you have anymore info on 27 for us? Such as features added? Maybe 26 has just been made available to dealers and the world.

Just download this image--the British Female Voice is already modded.

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...3&postcount=18

Awesome update!! I did it tonight--took just a few minutes. Map is definitely more clear, shadows are nice. And it seems with each update, searching the Nav addressbook gets faster. Highly recommended!!
