Quote: My Local dealer says they will update my V4 Nav to the current software for $123. mine is 21.2. I have the file, just thinking it may be better to have the dealer do it in case somethng would happen? Wonder what version they will use?

the new 2005 DVD is $199. Someone said it's dual-layer.

Just in case I decide to do the flash. what mode should the nav be in when I put the CD in?

$123? FOR A 5 MINUTE JOB...

Do it yourself and if you screw it up, (don't know how that would be possible) bring it to them.

All you do is put a disk in and wait for a few minutes till the nave screen says done.

I'm in Fayetteville NC, If your close I can help you. Its VERY simple, in no way worth $123. If anything they should do for nothing.

I'll probably try it tomorrow. I just read a couple posts where guys ended up with black screens and were freaking out. maybe that was on the BMW X5 forum. The dealer should update it w/DVD purchase, I just don't see the dealer doing anything for free.

Is your car still under warranty? I had BMW update the nav software on my 3 series several times and was never charged for it - it was during the warranty however. When I brought the 05 MCS in and asked about the nav software a ways back they seemed like they would update it with no problem if they only knew anything about the latest version :P

Past warranty tho and they want to charge you for everything - I would DIY or, if you are really worried about it, call around to several dealers and see what they would charge. It is a 5 minute job but the dealers seem to have a half hour minimum charge, so it all depends on their rates and how fair they are. Doing it yourself should be fine, the only variable I can think of would be if you had an older car with a much earlier version of software that you were upgrading, but I think people here have been fine...

car is out of warranty. i'll check with a couple other dealers first. will probably end up doing it myself. it's one of the first V4 DVD units from '03.

The v26 update is for the Nav system which takes the DVDs. Then all you have to do is turn the car key to position 2 (car doesn't have to be on for this) and pop in the CD. The CD will load by itself and update the system. Take about 2 min.

bpago, what version are you currently on? CD or DVD?

The upgrade/brit voice are coincident - you upgrade the software with the british voice 'hack'.
When did you have the 'lock up'?

Yah, its on my site. I've had tons of people download it and use it without a problem. . One tip is to lower the speed on your CD burner and burn it.

Yes! it worked for me. Does look a lot better. not sure if the voice sounds different yet. burned at 12x on my Plextor with Alcohol 120% and Taiyo Yuden media. Thanks everyone.

Now for the new 2005 DVD. Dealer said $199, will check with Navteq tomorrow.

I have found that some folks notice the new update will give you a british voice if you change to English (langauge) rather then British. I don't know if someone messed with the file I have before I posted it or not. But this seems to do the trick

Yup you have the DVD one alright.
Maybe this thread on X5world will help. Although on an earlier page of this thread someone did an excellent job of explaining how to do this.

Last try...After downloading the file from my site use Winrar to decompress it. Open Nero or your favorite burning app. Tell it to 'burn image'. Select the file that you decompressed. Then burn at a slow speed.

Then insert into Navi drive.

I had a problem
When I first loaded the new firmware the nav had my vehicle traveling about 50 feet south of where I was (of the road). Once I turned off the car and restarted it seemed OK. Well that was until I was using it the next day. The position of the car seemed correct but the route would not update and the direction arrow on the right side was flashing and the only thing it would do is point to the south-east of the car and keep updating the distance for the turn (50, 100, 200...)

I reflashed the software and it seemed to correct itself... was I the only one to have this issue?
