daflake, any idea what version of software your download updates to? I think I'm currently on 4-1/100, does anyone know what the latest release should actually be?

The nav supports three voice languages at a time. If British male is not one of them you can change the 3 choices using Navcoder (30E) and a Resler (35E) or Vagcom ($10) interface.

You may also need a firmware update disc during the change.

Navcoder is downloadable online from http://www.navcoder.com/, then you pay to activate it to enable coding.

The hardware interface you can get on eBay for the Vagcom or Rolf Resler's website for the Resler interface.

The update CD for a mini I don't know where to find it, it may be only $9 at the dealer.

Frankly your total outlay is about $60-70 and your wait time is a few weeks, if this is the only thing you intend to do with your equipment, it may be worth asking the dealer what they charge.

This works very well and is easy to do. I did this to my MINI.

change from nav to gauge package

In short:
1. Update from original map program, just pop in a new DVD?
2. Anyone know if the gauge package for the R50 is still available?
3. How hard is it to accomplish the swap to a gauge package?

I am the original owner of a 06 MC with the nav package. I was thinking about updating the DVD for the first time. Reading backwards through the thread here I seeing references that the DVDs are no longer made? Did I read correctly? If the process is very involved I am very comfortable using the Garmin from my other car.

Anyone know if the gauge package for the R50 is still available? A friend I autocrossed with that gauge package and I have to say that I like it (always missed the temp, and the oil temp would be nice to have). I remember reading some years ago that the swap was easy to accomplish. Comments on that would be nice too. If I am going to switch away from the Nav, I would like to have a set of gauges.

1) This will update the maps, not the OS.
2) Consider the aux gauges near the shifter, link in my sig.

I have a 2005 R53. I just removed the navigation disk and it is a DVD dated 2007.2. Where (besides the dealer) can I get an updated DVD. Also I hear of another CD to update the fiirmware to have 2D view. Is this correct and where can I purchase this CD?

The only place to get a disk is from the dealer and they aren't cheap. As for the 3D view (Birds Eye), you need to tell us what version firmware you have. This thread should have instructions on what you need to do.

The originals were Navtec - MINI changed to Tom Tom and the new discs are available only through the dealer network for around $200. They (unfortunately) now require 2 for East and West US, too. You need to have the latest software and firmware versions to utilize these discs. Someone on this thread has an ISO image available and sent it to me through a file transfer agent, but I considered the risk too high if something went wrong so I demanded that the dealer order the software disc from MINI and update my S/W and F/W. They didn't even know what I was talking about but placed the order. When it arrived, they had no idea how to install it so I did it myself in their service writing area. There should be no charge for the S/W & F/W updates. Maps you will have to pony up. Sorry.

Jim

The ISO that was on the forum here works fine. I used to host one, but I haven't done it in a while.

Also, the company that they switched to is TeleAtlas, not TomTom. You can order a new disk here...

I still have the V32 ISO and the 2010 maps.

Additionally the map disc does not contain the Firmware update. They are two separate items. There is no maps on the firmware and no firmware on the maps.

NAV Update 2005 Cooper S

daflake,

I did not want to imply that the ISO was not good - only that if there was a mishap, I wanted it to be MINI authorized to avoid a possibly very expensive fix because it was "my fault".

I followed the link provided to purchase the TelAtlas maps and when I selected "US" and "Hardtop" and "2005", I got the 2014 2 disc set with a part number (unreadable due to awful resolution) and this at the bottom:

"Powered by B3 Corp. / TomTom B.V.
TomTom is an Authorized Supplier of MINI Navigation Map Update Products.
© 2013 MINI USA, a division of BMW of North America, LLC. The MINI name, model names and logo are registered trademarks."

Perhaps, TelAtlas is their supplier for other years or models?

The map discs do not contain any S/W or F/W updates - just maps. When you update the software - the main purpose of which, from what I can ascertain, is to enable double layer reading of DVDs, you will see an amazing transformation of the image. Much higher resolution and better color. Unfortunately, functionality is unimproved, leaving you with an unintuitive search and no way to pan across an area without zooming out.

The Map update gives minor and often invisible updates. Depending on the version currently installed you may see a small improvement in the calculation time, the calculation algorithms and a few extra features are installed including 3D view (which everyone tries for 1 month then deselects because it doesn't zoom out far enough at speed).

Be sure not to buy maps for a MK2 mini.

I updated the firmware on my MINI today to v32. It has a new look to it now which is cool and it also seems to go much faster between pages and searches. I checked my DVD for the maps and they are from 2003 (even though my MINI is a late 2005 model)! I know you can buy them online from MINI but they are $200 for the 2 DVD's! I was seeing if anyone would want to do a group buy on them. We could buy an OEM set from MINI and then burn copies of the disks for everyone. I have tons of recordable DVD's to make copies of them. Let me know if you're interested! If we could get 10 people willing to do it, it would only be $20 a person for the disks from MINI. I will also include a CD with the latest firmware as well so they will definitely work with the 1st gen navigation systems.

I found it online from multiple places. You can get it here though:

I'm trying to get the new maps but I'm not about to spend $200 for them! That's just outrageous!
