The firmware is only needed to upgrade your maps at one point. If you upgrade yours, will you consider selling you 05 reasonably?

The surgery needed is very simple. There are 2 folders that contain the American Female voice. You simply need to swap the American Female voice with the British Female voice by just renaming the British Female voice as the name of the American Female voice. You'll have to rename the existing American Female file so it doesn't conflict. I would just change the extension to BAK.

So navigate to the
V2/Voices/0502

rename usa_f.csf to usa_f.bak
rename gb_f.csf to usa_f.csf

V2/language/BMWOCN

rename usa4f.tsf to usa4f.bak
rename gb4f.tsf to usa4f.tsf
I'm just curious if anyone has an update of how to mod the files for V32... from what I can gather these are the files I have changed for the new version. I haven't tested it yet, but let me know if any of you have already done this.

These are my untested instructions for firmware update disc V32, which I will use on my MK4.

V2/Voices/0506/

rename usa_f.csf to usa_f.bak
rename gb_f.csf to usa_f.csf

V2/language/0103

rename usa4f.tsf to usa4f.bak
rename gb4f.tsf to usa4f.tsf

V2/language/0105

rename usa4f.tsf to usa4f.bak
rename gb4f.tsf to usa4f.tsf

language/0101/

rename usa4f.tsf to usa4f.bak
rename gb4f.tsf to usa4f.tsf

I don't know if the last one is necessary, can anyone confirm if these are the right directions?

I decided to stumble through this thread since I have no Nav voice, good info from several Mini addicts. My SW version is 4/1-50 and I have the option of US / GB / E voices. What I get is a radio volume decrease when it appears the Nav voice is speaking then the radio volume returns to normal. I had the voice set to US and switched to GB, but it does not appear to have made a difference. Any ideas on how to get the voice to function properly? I did try to set the Nav volume to both max and min with no effect. Thanks!

You have an MK4 unit. Have you changed the radio in the car? Some of the older radios are not pinned the same as the newer radios and you will lose voice if you swap the HU. I have a radio that does the same... I have not sat down to figure out the pins, but it is "fixable".

I have not and don't believe the radio has been changed. It has had an aux plug added for an iPod and does have the HK option.

That is the problem. If you have Nav, you can't use AUX and I don't know of a way to fix that. I'm in the same boat and my nav is also silent right now. I thought about splicing the wires, but haven't given it a shot.

Not true. I've got Nav and Aux-in. I do believe that you need to swap some pins in the Aux-in harness though. Greatbear detailed the changes needed years ago, but I can't find it in the archives.

Well, it is true... As I posted, I have not tried to splice the wires or swap pins but that is the problem and if you asked a dealer they would simply tell you it isn't possible.

I do plan on resolving this though and if we can find that post, that would be great!

LOVE my Brit female voice. Especially when she says 'motorway'.

Wonder why I couldn't find that post. Glad to hear it works, though.

This message was posted in 2003. Any updates on how to do this with newer models? I haven't taken delivery of my pending 2013 mini and I know I need that American tramp's voice changed to something nicer. :-)

Totally different NAV in the newer MINIs and to be honest, they are not as easy to hack. Not sure if anyone as done it.

Hi All,
I own a 2004 COOPER 'S' since new which came with Factory Nav. I've never updated the (DVD?) I live in Washington State and I'm moving to Maui Hawaii this January 24th. I'm getting ready to ship her over and wondered if I should update now or after I land??? (I'm not too saavy on the subject. Are the Hawaiian Islands included on the Nav. that originally came with the MINI?) Thanks in advance for your help! MinisRcheeky

I have a 2005 MCS w/nav - settings sw 4 - 1/50. I bought the updated map DVDs and get an error message. I have a feeling that the discs are the wrong ones as they appear to be 1 number off on the UPC when I look them up on the MINI site (got them from the dealer) but I think my sw or fw is out of date and won't read the the DVDs as I get a "wrong DVD" error message when I inset them.

I skimmed through this thread for update sw and clicked a link to megaupdate.com or some such and got an FBI notice that the site had been seized. Does anyone know how I can update my unit?

Thanks

Jim

Jim, your nav is too far out of date. The new DVDs (make sure it is the High version and not Pro) are dual layer and the latest firmware turned that option on.

Sadly programming for our navs ended a few years ago, so finding the updates is not easy.

I loaded it up to a dropbox account for you to download.

ISO for v. 32

Daflake,

Thanks so much!

I downloaded the file and burned a DVD. I reread your post and noticed your admonition about getting the "High" Version rather than the "Pro" version.

When I bought the new map (2 DVDs) from the dealer, I inserted the proper one into the player and got an error message telling me to insert a proper DVD. I went to the store.MINI website and iniated a purchase of the proper maps. As I was dropping it into the cart, I noticed that the SKU was one digit off of the one I had in my hand - 65 90 2 339 015 vs the 65 90 2 339 015. After reading this thread, I determined that I may have two issues - out-dated software and the wrong DVD. I went to the dealer and they double checked the discs and swear I have the right ones. One of their techs checked bulletins and they ordered the DVD (probably the one I just downloaded from you) from Germany. They knew nothing about any of this and while they are being very accommodating, I get the idea that they are clueless.

I examined the discs as I was about to upgrade the software and found that the new discs are "Pro" - what is the difference and where can I get what I need (if you know)?

Thanks a million for your help!

Jim

Oops - I have 65 90 2 339 014 - the one on the site is 65 90 2 339 015 - sorry for the confusion!

I do not believe so - the earlier versions of Nav had CD maps. In 2004 or early 2005, they went to DVD - they are now using USB downloads - no discs at all. Easier and more reliable but dealer dependent...

If you check your manual, you should be able to see what it takes. The DVD or CD changer should be under the passenger seat - or driver seat if it is a convertible. If you turn it on and press the menu button, go to SET, you should see the software version in the upper right hand corner if it is the same - mine says SW 4-1/50 - if you check this thread, someone wrote down the code for what that all stands for. The latest software version is 80, I believe.

Hope that helps...

Jim
