Fullscreen CarPlay

It’s been a long time coming, but it looks like fullscreen CarPlay is now an option for at least some of us.

Thanks to Ndal and Pshoey for your help in figuring this out:

I'm confident this option will soon be available to those with 4gb ID5 NBT Evo headunits, whether you retrofit it or your car came from the factory with it. The process should be essentially similar to the aftermarket process to change BMW headunits to fullscreen carplay. An update to the software on the headunit itself may be required before fullscreen CarPlay is an option.

For those of you with Entrynav2 headunits, I suspect at some point Mini will offer this as an option to you, but I do not think the aftermarket will be able to provide a solution in the immediate future.

Great news for MINI owners! Please tell us more about the procedure. Maybe there is a full description of the process somewhere?

Very very cool, great work folks. I’ve been so busy with work I haven’t had a chance to do anything with the mini. I dread having to pull the HU out tho.

It seems full screen CarPlay on the 8.8 inch screen is now also available/possible from the factory.
In the Facebook group "electric mini UK" (F56 BEV) a photo of full screen CarPlay was shown (see below).

The SW version was also asked and the reply was :
Telephone : TT-002.146.002
Media : TT-002.146.002

I don't own a F56 (yet so I cannot try myself, but maybe a software update can also solve the issue.

I've done my F54 Clubman over the last few days. You'll need to do the following (at least if you have a Clubman, assume its similar for the F56 with NBT Evo headunit)

- Get the NBT Evo headunit updated to version 007.020.010 - which as far as i'm aware is the latest available. I was brave (crazy) enough to do this myself after my local Mini specialist failed to do it.
- Once you've confirmed you have that version running on your car, pay for an FSC patch to enable full screen CarPlay. You'll need to know a coder who's able to provide this specifically for the Mini - I can point you in the right direction if needs be.

A few photos of mine running:

Google Maps with satellite view.

Spotify.

This is what I went through to get my headunit updated (getting the .BIN download from BMW's site won't do the job):

E-Sys flashing using an ENET cable, external power provided from a donor car.

Head unit finally running the version required.

Where did you acquire the SW version update? I just pulled the UPD09051 update for my US-spec F60 from the Mini Connectivity website and it only put me at TB-005.014.050.

the update your are referring to is just about multimedia and mobile compatibility. You need a full sw flash to get carplay fs.

I'm planning to do the upgrade soon - this weekend if I get time carved out. I'll create an instructional video when I do.

Pardon my ignorance, but why not post links / instructions publicly for the good of the community?
