GPS hardwire for 2017 F54
Has anyone had any luck finding the right wire to use? I spent a lot of time today trying to find a wire I could tap into to power my Garmin. All I accomplished was having an emission error light appear because I tried using a wrong open spot on the fuse box. The only wiring info I could find was instructions for a Click and Drive but it was too old and the wires in my car are different. The other source was another set of instructions from MINI for a GPS mount and wiring for the Garmin they sell with the MINI logo, but again that info was wrong and it didn't match my wires. Even though the wires in both instructions didn't match my wires I did use a meter to check the wires in the same pin locations but the wires were live with the ignition off, so that was a no go. Without a wiring diagram I would just be guessing. Someone must have solved this problem. Maybe there is a set of new Click and Drive instructions out there that actually apply to this model?
I thought about tapping onto the power wire for the 12v outlet in the dash but I don't know how to take that part of the dash apart to access.

This is how I did mine.
"lighter" power stays on for about 4 or 5 minutes after ignition off.

Basically, it all pulls right out.
You're right that there is not a lot of room in there. When I added a second hidden socket, I used the 12V socket from the back below the rear vents. Theres a lot of room in that area.

That's very strange. Tapping into power shouldn't trigger an error. You should be able to use a fuse tap (like Littelfuse Add-A-Circuit) in any fuse position open or occupied, and you only need to choose between a switched or always on fuse. You can tap the cigarette lighter fuse and it would be electrically equivalent to connecting to the back of the lighter itself (at least the hot side, not the ground).
