cd stuck in h/k system!

i've had the car all of three days now... and it seems to have eaten an mp3 cd. it was playing fine, i parked, got back in, and it displayed the track/folder number but there was silence. then... it just said "CD" and when i try to eject it, nothing happens!! i called the dealer to ask about a force-eject button that most decks have, but they said to take it into service. i'm trying to avoid this - anyone have the same problem? any suggestions?

thanks...

Sounds like you'll have to bring it into the dealership, unfortunately. If you try to remove it yourself, they'll deny there was a problem and then screw you out of a new headunit.

Best of luck,
Ryan

If you label your CDs, make sure to use 'permanent' labels which wont peel off and foul the mechanism. Some labels are 'removable', and the heat inside the car and the headunit will sometimes be enough to make labels come off.

If the disk you have stuck inside the unit is not labeled with adhesive labels, then the headunit is just plain defective and needs to be replaced. Hopefully the dealer can extract the disk for you.

Thanks for your responses. Yeah, I don't put the flimsy labels on CDs for that reason. What ended up happening (in case anyone else runs into this) was that I shut the car off for an hour or so, came back to it and it was like nothing happened!! I did a search on here and MINI2 and someone's radio had gone haywire with the same solution so I gave it a shot. Thank goodness it worked! I'm still not pleased that it was even an issue 3 days into ownership, but what can you do.

I had the same issue after having the car since wednesday. I was on a 250 mile trip too, so it was a bummer having no CD's. I'm crossing my fingers that if I let it sit overnight this will fix it. It's pretty rediculous to have a head unit fail in a matter of days, but I suppose quality problems are inevitable.

Is there some kind of virus going around? Mine did the same dang thing this morning. Drove the car Friday, left a CD in (no label) and this ayem the display read CD but it won't play or eject. It's lunch time now so I'll take a walk and see if it ejects after a four hour cool off period.

I went out to the car and hit the eject button - the Rolling Stones popped right out after a 5 hour "rest". MINI USA, are you following this thread?

Same here. Went out to the car this morning and the CD popped right out like nothing had ever happened.

I had the same problem with an 05 MCc (loaner car from the dealership) recently. It only had 5,000 miles on it. The service person and I hit the button over and over till we got it. At first it would poke the CD out just a hair and suck it back in. Then it would say "No CD." Eventually, it gave it up. But, it was the Italian Job soundtrack...do you blame it?

This is the second time this has happened. I know I will walk back out there later tonight and it'll come back out like nothing happened. wtf?

So, my question is: Has anyone taken this issue to the dealer to have this fixed or replaced?

I don't like the idea that my player will work when it feels like it!!

Thanks in advance!

eh, usually when something like that happens, they will replace the whole CD unit. I guess it's a good deal for those who have HU's that don't have an aux connector or mp3 compatible HU's, since they have a chance to get a brand new unit under warranty.
