This has been a great thread for planning my head unit swap.
I have to know - how did you pick out a vendor for the head unit purchases? There seem to be DOZENS out there, all selling very similar (or the exact same) looking devices.

Exactly why I paused on my purchase of one for 3rd gen MINI. My theory is that they use different names to sell these and when they are called on warranty or refunds they just move on to the next company name so they don't have to pay off. GL

I went with the androidfactory ebay store, since they were very communicative and helped with a lot of my pre-purchase questions. I believe at least one other person in this thread used them as well.
Has anyone else experienced weird beeps from the speaker? Sometimes it seems to randomly chirp 3 times, and just this evening it did a semi-long (half a second?) beep at me.
Does anyone know what fuse this would be using? On an R57, here's my fuse diagram (doesn't match the Hot or Not thread..)
Yesterday morning, the unit didn't come on with the car and the tach light didn't come on (though the openometer one did...) After about 20 minutes of driving they came on and they were good until today at lunchtime, when the unit didn't come on again, and hasn't come on since after about an hour and a half of driving. I want to try the fuses before pulling the dash apart again to check the wiring.
Edit: ordered fuses, they didn't come today so I pulled the dash apart to check the wiring.
Turns out a cable had come loose. Plugged it back in and everything is fine now!
So my android unit arrived (link). I purchased the one in the link which others on here have gone for. Overall I'm very happy with it. Its fits very well. I ordered a wireless carplay dongle but I'm having issues with it. Every morning when the unit boots from cold it does not recognise the car play dongle. I have to reboot the unit several times to get it to recognise the dongle. Once it recognises the dongle it work fine all day even after leaving the car off for several hours. It might be that the dongle doesn't work very well with that unit or its a faulty dongle. Anyone else have this issue or has anyone got a link to a dongle that work well with this unit? Wired or wireless i don't mind, I just wont one that works.
Kazy, have you resolved the random beeps from the unit?
I don't think I've heard them since re-attaching the cable, but I don't think I've driven long enough to know for sure. They seemed to come only once every 8 hours or so of driving, so it's hard to tell.
@jiggersplat How did you go about hooking up your LC-BMRC-01? I'm in the process of installing one now and want to make sure I don't screw it up. You mentioned power/ground/can and one other wire. Did you wire speakers up?

I screwed it up
They harness they ship it with has two connectors that will both fit the board, and no indication of which end should get plugged in. I ended up wiring power to the CANbus and blew all the CAN/OBDII fuses. I haven't been brave enough to try it again. Theoretically, it should just need power, ground and the CAN-H and CAN-L wires which you can tap all of them off the stereo harness. I actually have it out on my bench right now. If I remember I will try and post some pictures of the right end of the harness.
Chime module
Red & black are power and ground. Pink/Blue and the one below it are CAN-H and CAN-L. Don't recall which one is which and apparently I didn't write it down anywhere.
Has anyone who has pre-LCI Mini CD or Boost (with the volume **** hole) tried to change the face plate to the LCI's one (black CD), in order to install the latest Chinese android headunits ( PX6, 4G RAM, black without speedometer)?
I finally got around to reinstalling mine... I had a replacement shipped after the first one wouldn't power up any more.
1) The alternator whine is pretty bad.
2) I no longer needed the line-out-converter. (There's also a setting in the factory settings menu for amplifier level which you can tweak)
3) Mine is the one with speedo. It doesn't work. It just sits there at zero.
4) I trimmed the speedo ring because it blocks the lower corners of the screen and drove me nuts
5) I can barely see the screen with the top down in the sun.
6) The play store is not exactly the play store...

I just got myself a Mini Clubman R55 2010.
I want to get an android head unit from Aliexpress because I need to have bluetooth and a rear camera for my wife.
There's such a ton of options though. I'm oscillating between a black one and the one with the tacho as jiggersplat posted above.
My question to you is. Can anyone point a direct link to a tested unit that works and fits the R55.
Doesn't have to be Aliexpress, but I live in Poland, so international shipping is a must.
I actually found a different launcher I really like, and it has deeper integration with the PX5 chips these use. It's called FCC Car Launcher. I was also able to get the steering wheel controls working with third party apps, as well as the voice control button set to activate Google Assistant.
What did you use to get the steering wheel controls to work with third party apps?
I will do it this weekend and figure out how to post it.
Have you ever gotten around to posting this launcher theme? I'd love to use this with my unit.
I recently got a unit off aliexpress and installed it (LINK).
There's some alternator wine in the speakers but nothing major. I also have a problem with the rear camera having interference, I will be replacing the camera first to troubleshoot as I bought a cheap *** one :D Steering wheel buttons work great also with 3rd party apps like spotify.
Otherwise it's a great piece. I've installed it in a 2010 R55 Clubman.

Power should be yellow. The red is 12v accessory power lead for the aftermarket stereo.
Did you get blinker sounds through it? I only get the door open warning chime. Haven't checked the seatbelt warning yet.
For those asking, the pre lci controls fit in the lci console just fine. And I found a cable on amazon that lets you keep the factory usb/aux port without cutting any wires. To retain all the system sounds, you need the brmc as well as the little speaker that comes with the unit, I don’t think a single solution exists that I have found.
@jiggersplat Any luck getting the chime module to work correctly? Thinking about pulling the trigger soon but want to plan as much as possible before install.
Has anyone tried to resolve the alternator whine? Seems like there should be a solution using a filter but I am not super knowledgeable in this area and if it's bad and not fixable, I might forego this all together.
Not installed yet nor will it be anytime soon but I have high hopes since they describe it as a plug and play option. I had a friend speak to the seller directly in Chinese and confirmed as such as well.
Although its a bit older, i think it will work perfectly fine.

Thanks everyone!
I haven't tried again since I blew all the obd-ii fuses the first time around with bad wiring on my part.
I've also not dug into the alternator whine but my research tells me the same as you... Install a filter. Never used one before, ground loop isolators, yes but only between a head unit line out and an amplifier.
