Retrofit Sirius into my 2008
I am currently using an XM Direct unit in my convertible and would like to switch to the factory Sirius. What is needed for the install and is it still available?
For the factory kit for the R52 MINI convertible Models.

For MINIs with Harman Kardon sound system, they will also need the antenna Cable extension.

I remember early R52 convertibles did not have the satellite prep antenna and had to run the external Sat antenna, check your antenna for the extra plug or little sat antenna chip mounted in the housing under the cover facing forward. Some people on the forums that did not have Sat prep pre wired have modded the LP antenna (or one like it ) to fit into the housing. So if you don't have the prep , you will not have the extra external antenna on the outside.

Just to expand on the above, there was never an SDARS antenna base for the cabrio. GPS/GSM/FM yes, at $312. http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...59&hg=65&fg=30 The hardtop got an SDARS base but not the cabrio. Others have modded it.
The retrofit kit is only needed if you don't have a black box under the passenger seat with the HK amp inside. You only can use the bracket for that situation. Plus you can't get the cables in, the rubber bung is too tight to accept the terminations.
The Y cable is required only if you are stuck in 1993 listening to a CD changer. The right angle adaptor is too cheap not to order as it aids installation.

Thanks guys. So, the Sirius tuner plus assorted installation kit and cables are $600+ to get me started. I have the HK stereo but not the CD changer. I didn't browse the mods for the antenna base yet. Will the small Sirius antenna be sufficient and where does the Sirius tuner mount? By the way, my car is a late build.
Check out the link in my Sig.
I used this antenna. Works best with a clear sky view and a metal base (the roof) to resonate against. i have OEM Sirius in my X3. When I park in my garage, the Mini holds the signal for longer, so there is no problem with signal strength even though it's an XM antenna.
I had it on the passenger side for a while, however overhanging trees gave me dropout, so I moved to to the driver side where there are usually less trees.

For the verts? Never got it. The Sirius antenna would have SDARS support, and you can see that in the realoem link, SDARS is not supported.
