I'm not sure if I have the latest software in my vehicle. I've read the instructions on the minicooper.com/connectivity website and I am even more confused. Here is my software version #s. Am I up to date?

I have a 2013 mini hardtop & a 4s iPhone . I have the mini- connect & I can't get the mini connect to work with the phone ugg!! I have the Bluetooth on ~ voice activation works, contacts work , I just can't get the *plug in* to work . When I try to plug in the flash drive with the new software update it does nothing does not reconize USB device or audio ... I've called the service dept - went to the online site nobody knows !! I don't get it isn't the iPhone the most common phone shouldn't they have advisers if they know about these kinks !! Help !! Can there be a step by step guide !! Why isn't there any videos to explain !! Or a phone # when I emailed the the support they directed me rite back to the site of the down load ~ help someone walk me threw this or send me to someone who gets this BIG THANX !!!

What version of the iPhone IOS is installed on your phone? Plugin does not work reliably since the last two updates on the iPhone 4 and 4S. It doesn't appear to be a MINI related issue but something that Apple broke.

 

I do have the *latest* up date for the iphone 4s i did that just the other day thinking maybe that was the issue ( so im all up to date with the iPhones updates ) i thought that apple was working with the mini to interface together on mini connect?? Now what is it hopeless :( can i de - update my phone thank you so much for responding i wish that there was a little note that came with the manuel informing of the proper set up specifically ~ oh well back to the cookie cutter have a great day and maybe someday apple will come out with iphone 8 and it will work with the mini and we will be happily ever after motoring in mini connectivity

Yes the update on iphone says version 6.1.2 25mb again a big thanx for all your help !!!

 

Apple's cooperation with BMW & MINI has been spotty at best - much like their cooperation with various accessory manufacturers. Because Apple is so paranoid about leaks they don't share much of what they're up to - case in point is the new Lightning connector. There are so few accessories for the connector because Apple didn't share with their accessory partners the specs of the new connector until two months AFTER the iPhone5 was released.

The last two software updates in particular were rushed through development as they were in response to security issues in IOS. As a result MINI and all of Apple's partners didn't know what Apple was going to change in the base code to resolve the issue.

Given Apple's own paranoia regarding leaks - in particular those that seem to come from their supply and accessory partners, I only see the situation getting worse in the coming years, not better...

As for the generic interface - I still find that significantly better than working directly from the phone. I only wish that interface worked with the Podcast app as well as the music library...

Thanks for your help. I have updated my system as of today. It took all of 20 minutes to download update, walk to the car with the flash drive and update the car.

Elle, After you download the software update. Open it with Stuffit Expander or in the Terminal. This will enable you to open it into the correct single .bin file. Then just drop that file into the thumb drive and you should be good to go. Google and find a free Stuffit Expander if you don't have it.

 

Since getting my iPhone 5, my interface has been acting funny. Can I update the software of my '08 myself or do i need to take it to the dealer for this? I checked out the site for connectivity and it says that I must have an update software option in settings which I do not but I seem to have the options that are listed in the requirements to update. I'm confused...

 

Update setting is under MINI Connected settings.

Works fine on a Mac; the file you download will be called UPD<something>.bin, put it on a USB memory stick and plug it in to the USB audio port (not the one in the glovebox).

When you go to the Software Update screen, the display will tell you that there's no update on the stick. Wait a few seconds - it will probably change its mind.

Note that the version numbers as displayed on screen have extra zeroes in them (e.g. the 3.5.4 update is printed as 003.005.004).
