iPhone 4 USB Audio Quality Poor

I have a 2013 Mini Cooper. Plugged my iPhone 4 into the USB+Audio Jack and the audio quality is awful. The volume is extremely low and it almost sounds mono although sound is coming out of both speakers. Bluetooth sounds great but you don't get the ability to move around without the phone. I'm using the y cable that came with the cooper. Whats going on here?

I assume you tried re-seating the Aux connection. Many have noticed (including me) that it easily comes loose.

Another option If you hadn't already tried it is to try different eq settings on your iPhone settings under iPod..

Just to clarify: You're using the (genuine BMW) factory cable, 30-pin to iPhone on one end, split USB and 1/8" stereo on the other, going into the appropriate jacks under the stereo?

Someone already mentioned making doubly sure that the audio connection is fully seated (mine has a tendency to want to pop out a bit as I move things around).

But I did have a lot of issues, including yours, while using a third-party cable purchased from Amazon. Ultimately it was returned for a refund, and I bought the (massively over-priced) version from the dealer, resolving my issues across the board in the process.

If you figure it out, let us know.

I believe that fleazilla was referring to what you see when you press the Audio button on the stereo, with an iPod or iPhone connected, and you (should) see "IPOD" as one of the choices for audio source.

I cannot find the reference now, but apparently the MINI stereo system supports different EQ settings (bass, treble) for each source, so it can be different when IPOD is selected vs. the radio, etc. I've not actually confirmed that on my own.

Yeah sorry if I remember correctly it used to be under iPod in my old 3G iPhone but looking at it now its now under music with the music note emblem, just need to go under your settings on your iPhone then go into music and it will give you your options along with your eq settings, just try them all and find the best sounding one while in your car..
