Trouble with factory radio, 2004 mini cooper s

I recently took my car to the Mini Dealer regarding this issue but it has not been resolved. Basically to sum it up, my stock radio is able to turn on and off when the car is off and the key out of the ignition. It does not turn on/off when the car is started and turned off. It will shut off after 20 minutes of driving. Mini said it was my radio itself, I just got another stock radio for it and still the same thing occurs. Any suggestions?

The main purpose for this is to hook up an iPod adapter to the stock radio. The issue is it will constantly drain my battery while the car is off when the adapter is hooked in. So after draining my battery and replacing it, I'm determined to fix it.

Thanks!

It is a feature of our system. It should not draw enough to kill your battery. Just shut it off every time you get out or it will shut itself off. No worries

But hooking up the adapter, it did drain my battery, and when I purchased the car it didn't do this, so there's something definitely wrong with it.

Issue is the 'acc on' wire. Can't recall which one it is, but the stock radio will play 20 min on its own if it doesn't think the car is on. Yours thinks the car isn't on.
A thorough search here (this has been reported many times) should give you the answer.

edit: Here is the radio pinout: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...536-post2.html
Looks like the purple/blue wire/connection is the issue.

I did some research and found wiring issues where the two wires are switched (pins 15/16) but mine display correctly. Could it be a bad fuse? The Mini dealer did say it was my radio itself, but i got another used one, possible this one is bad too?

I would check that pin 16 is getting power when the key is in the acc position. Odds of two head units having the same weird problem is nil.
Does the second head unit also leave the ipod adapter powered when the car is off? Is it the OEM adapter?

I haven't installed the ipod adapter into the new unit simply because its performing the same actions as the stock one. This is a link to the adapter that I purchased. http://www.gtacarkits.com/mini_coope...06_car_kit.php

Was the stereo working normally before you installed the ipod adapter?
I don't know that there is a specific fuse for the radio acc, but if the function changed after the adapter was installed, that would be a good place to start.

If there has been an IPOD connector to 3.5mm cable adapter added, or an IPOD device is left on the end of the IPOD cable before the radio is
physically turned off via its control **** while the car is still on, then this is the problem! The radio does not enter the "sleep" state properly
and keeps alive / stays on even when the car is off (although the radio does not appear on). There is a known defect with the Alpine radios that
keeps draining battery power!
As a temp fix, the radio must be turned off with the car still on AND THEN either the IPOD device disconnected from the IPOD pigtail, or the 3.5
adapter disconnected from the radio's IPOD pigtail before the car is turned off & key taken out of the ignition. An updated Alpine CD53 player is
supposed to be available from the manufacture by now. Affects R50, 52 & 53……Technical Service Bulletin reference # M6520005 issued January 14, 2005
addresses this. It is a known problem. See: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...tallation.html
I had noticed that every time the car was dead, for some strange reason when I got inside, only the radio kept its settings while everything else had
lost its settings / memory.

Sometimes the Radio won't even turn on, after I start my car...and now when it does come on, it cuts out in about 5-10 minutes...
