BUS

RKW:

Thank you...I am installing this origional MINI head unit in to my 87' Carrera. I have a 06' CHECKMATE and liked the radio. I have supplied power to the unit and it reads DISABLE. I have read through the strings on the BUS and thought that the CAN+/+BUS wire needed to be hooked up. Any idea where?

Thanks again,

Roy

The NAM member who knows the most about CAN-bus/I-bus is probably GBMINI (Ian Cull). Look here for technical details from BMW: http://www.e38.org/bussystem.pdf

I'm not sure this is going to work out for you. The headunit wants to detect an active bus before it enables itself. You have to fool it somehow, but I don't know what it actually does to check for the bus. You could apply voltage to connector A pin 9 and see if anything happens. If it wants to detect real data on the bus, I think you'll be stuck. Your '87 Carrera is too old to have a CAN style bus that you can connect to.

CAN Bus

RKW:

You might be right...The 87 Carrera has a DME but from your article it states that the CAN style Bus was not introduced to the automotive industry until 1988. I have never known a manufacture to be so proprietary. No wonder they have no value on E-bay. I once tried to get the production numbers for my 06' Checkmate and no one would tell me!

Thanks again,

Roy

I need too remove the wiper relays that I think have gone bad, How do I remove them? I was told the fuse holder under the hood needs to be removed and then the relays can be removed......on my 2002 mini cooper

Anyone know what PIN 9 (WHITE/RED/YELLOW) CAN+/IBUS does ? That seems to be the cause of my electrical gremlins when I was trouble shooting my iPod retrofit kit. It also goes into the HK AMP (I assume it has failed since my radio no longer turns on, only illuminates when gauge lights go on).

Low voltage on fuses F2, F3, F4, and F5

I inherited a 2009 Mini Cooper clubman S JCW with a crank but no start issue. Have narrowed it down to the low voltage (5volts) in the fused circuits mentioned above. F5 is the circuit that actuates the coils and that may explain the no start. Have replaced the coolant temp sensor, foot pedal for the gas, and the passenger JBE fuse panel without improvement. I have also replaced all of the under hood fuse panel relays to include the on mounted on the fire wall with out increase in the voltage. Is there an internal fuse in the under hood fuse panel that could account for this persistent low voltage in the under hood fuse block.

Any suggestions would be helpful.
