Navigation & Audio Sirius Factory-Like Tuner?
Sirius Factory-Like Tuner?
So here I was all excited to get my '09 JCW with the factory installed Sirius radio only to find out upon delivery that it does not have it.
I'd rather not go with a Plug and Play unit only because that will be one more device on my dash in addition to my iPhone so I was thinking I might go with this:

Anyone have any experience with it?
Sure, for $600 I can buy the OEM tuner from Mini and install it myself or even use the Sirius/XM app for my iPhone for my needs, but it sure would be nice to have something a little more permanent.

No personal experience but from reading about it i can tell you that it works of of FM Modulation so you have to set your radio to a specific station and that is how you get the sound into your radio. IMHO that is about the worst way to have an input for audio from a connected device. But then that is just my opinion.
Question is did you order the SAT Radio when you ordered your car? If so did you pay for it? If you paid for it tell them there is not backing down and that they MUST install it or get you another car with the exact specifications you ordered.
But if you did not order or pay for it that will not work.

This isn't as bad as it sounds; I'd read about Mazda5 guys doing something similar where they didn't have factory Sirius, but can't find a link quickly.
It's not one of those micro-FM-station in the cigarette lighter plugs that tries to broadcast an FM signal to the antenna; it's plugging inline to the antenna cable to pass the audio signal directly.
That's not much better info than you had, sorry...you'd love to hear from someone who put one of these in a MINI, that isn't me.
I was going to say use SirusXM on your iPhone since it's in the car already, that's what I do, but you thought of that (and mentioned it specifically).

I'm in the same boat, can't believe they don't offer the retrofit anymore. I'm going to call mini about it. Doesn't hurt for you to do the same. The more calls they get, the more likely they are to offer it again
Well, I already have an XM tuner in my other car, so I just use my iPhone and the SiriusXM app to get it in my '09 JCW. Sure it's $32 extra a year, but I can listen to it anywhere and it'll pause/FF/RW like a DVR.

Bumping this thread since I'm going to try the Audiovox(Dice) Universal RDS USB but I'm not happy about it. I already have Bluetooth and iPhone hookup in my newly acquired 2009 S but no Sirius. I'm coming from a BMW which I installed the Dice Mediabridge with Sirius so I have the SC-C1 after I ripped it out when I traded it in.
Pros for going this way.
1. want to keep the factory look
2. don't want to pay $500-$1,000 to have the factory option installed
3. avoid the $75 fee for changing my subscription to a new device(I only have 2 changes left too)
4. Supposedly I will be able to see artist and song info in the factory display
Cons
1. I can only change stations with the included remote
2. Installation involves wiring to the fuse box which is new for me but not a deal breaker
I'm hoping a better solution arrives in the next year or 2. I don't need a lot of functionality, I just like some of the talk radio shows on Sirius and I can't get them anywhere else. This will due for now unless the FM inline adapter isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Does anyone have a better idea?
