Amp and Sub Help
Hi all, first post.
I just inherited a 2006 R53 and i am really unhappy with the stock sound system. i DO NOT have the Hk system but would like to up the bass. Ive browed all available mini forums( which such btw ) and wasnt able to find a walk through on this process.
Ive done all the research and have my set up figured out. I am opting for the Pioneer TS-SW2541D 10'' shallow sub, with the Rockford Fosgate PRIME R250-1 amp. This a 250 watt amp which, after my research, should be the right amount of watttage for the sub size.
I also know i need a line level converter to convert the signal to the appropriate before going into my amp.
I would really appreciate a DIY guide to this. I was referencing this guide before: Hi all, first post.

also, the amp is a MONO amp. Would this make the installtion any different?
Thanks in advance!
But it doesnt provide me with specifics. also, the amp is a MONO amp. Would this make the installtion any different?

After browsing some more, I read that some people where able to simply bring a line from the rear speakers? Would this be the case for me, where I am simply looking install a sub? Would i be sacrificing one or both of my rear speakers?
Getting an amp with speaker level inputs is recommended.
You would like both left and right to go to amp, an amp with both inputs can then strap them to a single output - or see about an external converter that can do stereo to mono as well.
You can pick up the signal at the rear speakers - then your front / rear fade will reduce signal to the subs if you fade to the front.
The HU should have no trouble driving the speaker as well as the level in to the amp.

thanks for the help, GBMINI.
Just to clarify:
1. get a stereo amp, and I should be able to run cables from the AMP to the sub no problem?
2. I can pick up the signal from the rear speakers, both left and right ( the red and white RCA? ) --when getting the signal from the rear speakers, will i be leeching from one speaker or both? Also, will i cutting off the signal to the rear speakers?
3. since my battery is located in the trunk, and i can get the signal from the rear speakers there is no need to be tapping into my head unit?
Sorry in advance about the nature of my questions. I have little knowledge of audio/electronics.

Check out amp like this:
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_065GTA4...0m.html?tp=115
See left and right inputs, with single output. Also essential, low pass filter control.
You would wire by splicing to +/- on both left and right rear, while still leaving feed to speakers as well. You can get battery power in the trunk. You will also need a turn on signal but you should be able to find that on the antenna amplifier which is either in rear side panel, or in trunk lid.

Sorry to bombard with questions but,
I see that low pass filter control is included in the Boston amp you linked me to. What is that--in a nutshell?
When splicing both left and right rears, I would be taking both +/- from both speakers and feeding them into the amp? Wouldnt that leave me with 2 sets of +/- before feeding it into the amp? This question stems from my very limited understanding of car audio. (I also realize that is hould just take it into a shop but I would rather save the money and do it myself)
also, would the Rockford Fosgate PRIME R250-1 amp be suitable?( can't post links until i have 15 forum posts) I don't see anything specifying whether it has +/- input and a mono output.. I wanted to use this amp because I was told that you should match the RMS wattage.
the turn on signal via the antenna amp seems like another project in itself, am i right?

ive looked ALL over for how guide or basic tutorials, but i m not able to find anything that is mini specific

Sorry for the completely idiotic question. The +/- lines that i will be splicing from the rear will go into a line level converter correct? and then will then run to the amp?
these lines that I am splicing will need to be soldered correct?
