What kind of enclosure tuning are you using for the Brahma? (nice choice in woofer, btw)

Looks like RF is using Eton for their 6.5" mid-bass, the trademark honeycomb cone is a dead giveaway Not sure what you're doing for baffling/enclosure tuning for the mid-bass, but if you switch out to another set of front end drivers, I would most likely try to use the Vifa M18WO that is designed for IB apps (if they still make it), or perhaps a Peerless 850122. I would team this with a Scan-Speak d2904/6000 in a 2nd order L-R based alignment and compensate for the radiation axes and time delay. You'd have to high-pass the 850122 a bit higher than "normal" because it does not have much Xmech headroom.

That setup would work very well.

Ryephile...I'm going to be teaming up the 6.5's with Jordan JX-53 full range units in kick pods. And the RF's are OLD...like from 98 or so. Had them lying around, so will be replacing them with Adire Extremis or Koda woofers. The XO point will be around 300hz up and down.

MINIjunky,
Very nicely done. Great job.
What was the total price of the audio upgrade?

Total price...??? Hmmm...
Well, the McIntosh was bought back in '96 ($4500), The Sony C-90 was bought in '98 ($800), Jordan JX-53's bought in '96 ($400), changer in '00 (around $400), RF 6.5 FNQ's bought in 99 or '00 ($75), Adire Audio Brahma 10 bought in '02 ($350), and Behringer DEQ246 in '03 ($300 plus conversion $150), and I still have to buy parts to build my active XO, so, i figure another $75 for that, and all the cables and interconnects are either negligable (cat5 wire) or radio shack xlr plugs and things like that...so another $30 on that. Fiberglass supplies probably in the $200 range...paint $75, and PG Bass Cube, i've had that for ever...$199.
So, add that all up. I've done most of the work myself and all the rest has been with friend's help. Throw in some meals to the guys...

Sounds kinda expensive...Doesn't it?

Oh yeah...Ryephile, it's in about .6 sealed.

---> MINIjunky: do you have the specs for the woofer, aka what kind of Qtc did you tune for? Also, very interesting you're using Jordan fullranges (I was wondering what your high frequencies consisted of!) - I'm curious to see how that turns out, especially in terms of footroom! What kind of crossovers are you doing between the mid-bass and Jordan?

Keep up the good work

Rye, I didn't tune for a particular Q, just as low a Q as box space would allow. I had been running the B10 in a 1 cube box for over a year, and really liked how smooth it played with only 2-3 hundred watts, had plenty of output and great transient response. But, i knew I'd never get 1 cube in the boot of the MINI and still get the amp and EQ in there. So, ultimately, I just made the box as big as I could and figured i could LT (linkwitz transform) the bottom end to regain the extension, cuz you're right, the B10 has a fairly high EBP and even under the best non-enhanced modes of operation Fb is lofty at 60 or so Hz. But, I look for potential in my equipment, not what it's gonna do out of the box...as we all know, the brahmas have tons of excursion, so lots of down low boost is no big deal for it to eat up...
The Jordans and the midbass will be XO'd around the 250 to 300 mark, 24db LR filters up and down, might stagger the XO points to keep the system from being 6db down at the XO point. We'll see how it pans out. I'm building a custom made active XO, balanced in and operates off of the DEQ power supply so I can get 10 or so Volts RMS out of it.

I'll show pics when I get it soldered up.

till next time...

Parts to build my active XO $75
All the cables and interconnects -$30
Fiberglass supplies- $200
Paint $75
PG Bass Cube-$199.

Grand total estimated- $7254 plus meals
Good thing you had all that bought earlier and just waiting to be installed.
Still a nice job- well done.

Heh, now that you add that all up, it's a good thing I've had that stuff so long...otherwise that would have been a Works S or better.
