Navigation & Audio Official MINI Connected Thread
More confused
We just ordered a 2012 Convertible S with technology package and nav.
I've read the thread, but I am still confused about exactly what I need to get to utilize mini connected with my iPhone 4.
From what I gather, to fully utilize the system, I need a dock/connector that resides in the armrest. I am confused about which one though.
This link: http://www.minimotoringgear.com/#/pr...?CenterId=null
Lists two different models for the iPhone 4 without specifying the difference.
Any help appreciated!

Hey everyone, I thought I'd post something that should bring a smile to your faces.
Just over a week ago, I took delivery of my 2nd MINI, a 2012 JCW Clubman and I too ordered the Technology package with MINI Connected but without Nav.
It was pretty disturbing to find that I could get to most of the MINI Connected features through the Y cable but others needed a $250 snap in insert. Well, a couple of days ago, I got my hands on IOS 5, installed it on my iPhone 4 and now, I have all of the MINI connected apps right through the Y cable. So far, everything has worked the way it's supposed to.
So, don't run out to buy the snap in adapter, IOS 5 should be released on Friday with the new iPhone 4S.

Though I am still thoroughly disappointed in the lack of "Mobile Office" support for the iPhone. This is what would give you TEXT MESSAGES on the screen of your Mini!!! I'm attending a session at my local Mini next month where there will be a rep from Mini. Plan to bend his ear some on it!
I agree, there's lots of "room" for the Office App to grow. You'd think that having FB and Twitter functioning would be followed closely my SMS and/or Email. I'm also interested in the ability to see reminders and calendar events while connected.
That functionality IS ALREADY THERE... it just doesn't work with the iPhone!!! Go here: http://www.mini.com/connectivity/
- Click BLUETOOTH
- Click COMPATIBILITY CHECK
- Select CONVERTIBLE for car
- Select AT&T for carrier
- leave "Show all tested mobile phones." selected and click NEXT
It should then show 18 devices supported. But look closely on the right-hand side of the screen; and Check OFFICE (Manage email, calendar and notes.); only 5 phones come up, none of which are the iPhone; which is the ONLY one which works with Mini Connected.
I can try to post some photos of my actual Mini owners manual which even has documentation for this functionality. It's called Mobile Office. And yes, it does reminders and calendar functionality and SMS MESSAGES! Safety more than anything, should be driving SMS message support.

I just got a new Coupe..
Was curious to know.. where can I order a longer Y Cable for MINI Connected. The one MINI provides is so freakishly short. Any insight ?
Dealer told me none were available that he knew of.. He also said the "new" Y cables aren't like the "old" Y cables so that is why he had no idea if a longer one was available anywhere..
Thx

I'm pretty sure (still waiting on delivery) that the proclipusa.com clips will hold the phones close enough (in the clubman) to the USB jacks to function perfectly! That's what I plan on ordering once Gizmo gets here.
If it's not long enough, I'll just order some custom extension cables to make it go where I want.
USB is a standard, and the headphone jack isn't anything special either.

I just wanted to update that I installed iOS 5's official release to my iPhone 4, and Minimalism Analyser, Mission Control, and Dynamic Music, which did not previously work with the A/V Y-cable, all work now. I've never had a cradle. But I wanted to let everybody know that iOS 5 may solve all of your Y-cable issues.
Fantastic news!!
May I ask which "y cable" you have (e.g. part number)??
many thanks!!

Excellent question. I have no idea offhand, but it's the A/V cable, not the audio only cable. I'll look at it when I'm back in the car.
Wow great news about the Y Cable compatibility working with the apps. I will try later tonight on my iPhone. I just picked up my Coupe this week so I know I have the latest cable :P
Also I got confirmation that MOG support should be hitting MINI Connected and BMW Connect in the next week or so. They said 'mid October'

That would require a bit more of a data connection rather than an upgraded headphones profile...but it would have been sweet either way!
Neat! I wasn't using BT audio before since I have the phone plugged in anyway, but it's good to know that it works. For the last couple of days, I've been very happy with operating the phone through the USB control (though you can't pick podcasts unless they're in a playlist, as far as I can tell).
Sounds like you're up to speed on this tech stuff. Could you explain what was changed in the iOS software that allowed this BT improvement? Thanks.
Indeed. If we only lived in a perfect world where Bluetooth was a few steps farther ahead and could transfer data like that :P
Sorry for the cross-post, but was curious if anyone here is having issues with voice commands since upgrading to iOS5?
I used to be able to say "Phonebook" to get a list of names to dial. Now I get an error and no response from the system to ask what name I'd like to dial.
In my '08 Clubman, you could say "Dial Name" or "Dial Number" and those commands don't seem to work either.
Anyone else experience something similar or have a new list of voice commands?
Thanks!
