I've posted this in a few different forums throughout the years and nobody has ever said anything bad about it. A recent "system on a budget" post prompted me to dig it out for you guys. My buddy has this in his show car and no, I'm not kidding.

ABC Supply Company sells a product, that is in my opinion, is the same or better than Dynamat Extreme.

MFM, Peel & Seal™ Self Stick Roll Roofing, 12", Aluminum

33.5 square feet for $29.99!

35 square feet of dynamat extreme is $249 from Sound Domain.

If the product im recommending is only half as good as Dynamat, its still 8 times cheaper. If you're not a believer, you can order much smaller rolls, for less than the cost of Dynamic Control's speaker kit.

ABC has a lot of stores nationwide, check them out before you pay shipping and let me know your opinion if you try it.

Happy Holidays.

I used that stuff in my audio upgrade - worked great. I found it in 25' rolls 6" wide at Home Depot for $11 per roll. The 6" width made it easier to deal with in small spaces too.

Here's a couple of pictures:

I used b quiet on my Jetta. Similar to dynamat, and again cheaper by comparison. It worked nicely too.

Thanks for the resource.
How is the weight of the Dynamat vs substitute product?
What about long term durability?
It is possible to over apply sound deadening so don't go overboard especially since it is cheaper.

I am getting ready to apply some noise dampener as well...

Does the Home Depot stuff last in the long term?

Will the adhesive stick thru all weather?

I live in Phoenix, AZ and would hate to have the stuff com unglued in my door panel at 115 degrees.

Thanks in advance!

I'm currently soundproofing with fatmat . . got it off of ebay. 100 sq feet came to about 129.00 with shipping. They included a nice roller and blade to help with the install. I have used Dynamat in the past and this stuff is not nearly as thick. So far it sticks very well. I'l keep ya informed on the final verdict.

Hey Guys / Gals

I just did everything but the floor with the home depot stuff....6" wide....

I think I used 6 $12.00 rolls...did the doors, plus the back side of the oval on the door panels. Did the inside qauter panels from the pillar to the boot door both sides and the flooring under the seat and in the boot.

I still have to do the boot door and may do the floor.

It seems quieter to me...and the HK seems alittle more bassy ....and maybe the HK sounds a little bit louder...seems like I can feel the bass at my left leg more....

While doing it I started thinking about if it is a fire accelerant or not...but it was almost all done....so oh well....anyone know?

Any one up grade the stock HK speakers with any speakers that made a signifcant difference? I'm thinking about upgrading the speakers if it might help.

I did notice that the rear speakers had 4 wires going to them instead of the normal 2
Whats with that?

Thanks,
Bobbyn

So I just went out and bought some of this Peel&Seal and I noticed that it definitely had a ... smell... to it (smells like roofing material (duh)).

For those of you who installed it? Do you smell anything? didja let it air out or something before you installed in? How long have you had it in your car?

Thanks

Chuck

ok, here is the differnce on mine

Dynamat has a solid quality coz it was designed to use that way(in this time of the year most stuff has been pretty strict to what they really made for)
Most audio places carries them.

the other brands
pros:
cheaper.

cons:
dont sticky enough to last in the long run.
some easy to be rusted in the long run.
smells(as we have mentioned)

unknown Questions:
Heat resistant?? not sure.
moisture? not sure.

I would stay with brand name on those since they are not long term tested. I can more about the hassel later than the money.
Hidden danger always the worst.

well yeah I generally tend to agree, right product for the right job... but when the savings are almost 10:1 and there were several other people in this thread who used (and seemingly liked ) it... well I had to give it a shot.

so anyone out there with this stuff?

When I installed Peel & Seal I didn't notice any smell at all and now 11 months later still no smell. Perhaps mine sat in my Home Depot for a month or two before I bought it, and you got some fresh stuff. I'll bet your smell will fade pretty quickly. I would use it again in a heartbeat.

I am in the car audio industry and I have to tell you there there are very few products that compair to Dynamat (& no I don't work for them).

If you install a radio and you don't like it you can rip it out and put in on ebay. But, if you install some other sound proofing and dont like it will you be able to rip it out? I think not. Install it and your stuck with it, to it for the life of the car.

Don't skimp on the product. Its a one time expense.

b-quiet extreme, edead, raamat, brown bread, etc are all AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN dynamat extreme...peel n seal doesn't stick quite as well as those alternatives, but is even cheaper and works well most places but trunk lids (no problem in MINI )

no need to pay extra for dynamat extreme...dynamat extreme is just roofing material rebranded and marketed as sound deadener...all of the above ones i listed that are as good or better are also rebranded roofing stuff marketed for cars....peel n seal is actual roofing material sold as roofing material

if u wanna go ultra-cheap, go peel n seal...if u want quality and price, go with b-quiet extreme, edead, raamat or brown bread...

if u want quality and expense, go dynamat

check caraudioforums for real car audio advice and they will all tell u to use one of those instead of dynamat...

Still working good for me...Had one of my doors apart a few months ago and it's still stuck on good and proper over 1 year after installation.

If the Home Depots in your area of the country carry it, it's called Peel and Seal and you should find it in the roofing section of the store. I've corresponded with a few people in the southern part of the country that couldn't find it so it seems to be a regional thing. You don't list your Location so...

Works great...

I used the same stuff, it works great and is cheap. I used dynamat in the front, then I found this stuff and it work just as good... I just got a 36ft x 4 foot roll of it for 40 bucks.. That much dynamat would show in the GDP.

Where to By in the LA/Pasadena Area

After checking Lowes Hardware, OSH, and Home Depot and striking out, I finally located a source of 4" and 6" rolls of the aluminum-backed MFM Peel-n-Seal. Cost is about $22.00 for the 6" rolls. Vendor is Cal Western Roofing Supply on Fair Oaks in Pasadena, just south of Glenarm, right off the end of the 110 Freeway. This is a contractor's supply operation that is open to the public. Open Saturdays till noon.

Also, I found a copy of the MSDS for the product on the web. I will relocate the site and post a link to it.
