"TRAFFIC" ???

I just had my head unit (H/K) replaced under warranty. I didn't actually know they were going to replace it, but found out quickly when the previously austere little power button felt all beefy under my fingertip. Sure enough, when I looked at it, it appeared to have some kind of little cap-type thing on it, presumably to make it better looking, though I have my own opinion...

Anyway... when I turn on the radio I get the message REG OFF on the display for about 3-5 seconds. And on the right-most side of the display, where PTY had been, it now says INF -- with a blinking asterisk. When I press the corresponding button, the display reads TRAFFIC.

Of course they didn't give me a manual (and the thing doesn't actually work, either, but that's a whole nuther can of worms) so I was just wondering what these "new" features are...?

The satellite radio companies now support traffic live traffic feeds, no? I'd assume with the upcoming changes, you may have gotten a 2006 variant which was intended for H/K satallite radio subscribers with the Nav system. Just a guess tho.

You radio is set for euro mode. I had mine replaced as well and I had to reset it.

The traffic is a feature that is used in Europe but not here. In fact, the RDS here will not work right in the other modes. There is a thread here that shows how to change the regional coding. I'll try to find it.

OK, here is the post. If you follow these directions to get into service mode, you can change the localization of the radio.

Oh, the new radio will play MP3's so the dealer kind of hooked you up.

Cool -- thanks for the info!

Yeah -- once I figured out that the Traffic mode being on was causing my lack of reception (and not a new broken radio) I threw a little party.
