Mounting locations for portable GPS units?
If you have a portable GPS unit, where did you mount it? Also, did you buy a special mount or did you just use a suction type?
I have a fairly well equipped machine shop so making a custom mount should not be a problem. I'm kind of partial to stainless steel.
Thanks

Proclip's mount is great, plus I got the move clip system for it so I can swap out my gps, ipod or xm at will. http://www.proclipusa.com/

This has been debated endlessly in other threads. Everybody has thier own preference and liles ans dislikes and opinion on various available mounts. My suggestion is look at each carefully and decide what will fit your needs te best. that is what i did and I went wth the Kuda system. Teh Proclip and the Craven mounts are also good choices.

I had the gominigo mount for my TomTom 330xls. I did not like where it was positioned. Its in a great stealthy spot but its difficult to use. Sticking your hand through the steering wheel is not a great idea.
I recently got the Craven Speed Scangauge and TomTom mount. I also hard wired the TomTom. My pics and review are posted here on NAM. Here are 2 pics:

onefish2,
Do you have any "details" on where and how you hard wired it? From the pics it looks like you did a very nice job!
Also, would you please provide me a link for the additional pictures and your review?
Thanks...
P.S. Your user name, "onefish2" - what's the story on that?

This thread explains how to hardwire a GPS using a cigaretter lighter adapter and Busman add-a-fuse.

Craven has a new Fixie Garmin mount that is only $55. </shameless plug>
Maybe I'm too tired now but I couldn't find anything on your site to show what the mount actually looked like. Would you mind giving me a link?
Thanks...

Kidding...I took a photo and added it just now. Let me know if it is not what you had in mind.

Kellen,
Thanks for putting up the photo... like they say - " A picture is worth a thousand words."
Can the mount be put on the left or right side of the column? I can see that if it is mounted to the right, the ball end would head in an upward direction... but maybe that is okay...I'll have to check the car and see if that matters. Looks good though!
By-the-way, what material is the mount made of?
Thanks...

This is the new GARMIN mount from MINI that mounts to the Tach. It can be positioned on both sides of the tach. for about 100.00, it comes with the mount AND the wiring harness to hardwire.
