My 2006 MCS Sub install
Well, I found an awesome Orion HCCA 250R amp on Ebay last week and just had to have it! So after bidding my max bid on it, his buddy (I'm guessing since 95% of his bids are with the same seller on the same 2 items) I get outbid by $5, on both amps. Oh well. I hate Ebay.
Ok, so I went to www.dealercostcaraudio.com and picked up a Kicker Solobaric L5 10" sub and MB Quart PAB 1200.1D. I got both for under $350 shipped.
Now as soon as I get off my butt I'm gonna go start working on building a box.

Well, the box is done...
now just waiting for the shipping to get here with my components.
enjoy your popcorn.

Stone textured finish for the amp rack and sub face mount.

carpeted, excuse the glue on the edge lol, I didnt realize I put my hand on it till it was too late...it came off once it was dried.

top cover for the box, this might not work, but I'm gonna give it a shot. The sub might rattle it too much for my taste, but its removable, or cutable on the sub side.

I can mount the sub anywhere in the box, but that was the idea, upward firing, then again I might just do a down fire and put some feet on the bottom of the box and leave the amp rack alone. But yeah, that was my initial plan. The problem with building the box without the components is hind sight. The amp is 17" long, the sub is 10" wide and there's only 28.5 in the top of that box, soooo I hope it fits, if not the sub might get put in the side of the box.
I for one think its gonna do 1 of 2 things.
rattle like no other and make the lid unusable.
Or if I cut the plexi out behind the logo I might get some sort of odd "port" noise. I've never actually covered up a sub before so I'm not sure what to expect, but I dont think its going to be perfect the 1st try.
This was all made from scrap I had laying around, so if it doesnt work I'll just build another one to cover the amp, and maybe do a better job on the Mini logo.
I might consider making it a "bandpass" type enclosure even though it wasnt designed as such, by really securing the face down with lots of screws. I have concerns with that too.
1. The amp should never be attached to the box, there's lot of vibrations there. (but I'm already short on space)
2. The amp probably shouldnt be sealed up with it without air flow for heat dissipation sake.
I figure worse case scenario is I lose the top cover all together, go buy me a Kicker solo baric grill, strip it and powdercoat it red. The amp is going to be powdercoated as well just because I can. Cant do anything else until I get the UPS man here.
Oh no, it was very obvious that it was MINI emblems. I think it was the red glow that made me think of Batman.
I agree on your 2 points. I think it will sound weird or rattle. The rattle can be fixed though, so as long as it sounds OK I think you're golden.

well put my subs in today, only have the bass controller left to hide so excuse that one wire you can see.
The Yard store is awesome. Got the Carpet, lexan, and wiring connectors there.
FINALLY got my subs and amps delivered...after a month of dealing with DealerCrapCarAudio.com

This was the origonal top cover I made, but I think I like my 2nd idea better

fits perfectly, even had room to leave the stock jack and tool kit. Hits hard with no rattles so far.

I'm a little confused at not seeing the mini emblems inside the car... And about the comments, I don't know. I think it's sweet! Most people posting here seem to just be confused about their HK system, and the enthusiasts are few and far between. You just gotta hope one of them checks your post.
