My Car Audio Upgrade!
Well, it is finally time to upgrade from stock!
Just got the Jensen VM9312 from a guy off NAM from the market, I know it's not the "BEST" but for the price it was worth it, I only use it to control my iPod so it works perfect! And watching movies on it is awesome!

Then I start building my box!
I ordered 2 Rockford Fosgate P2D412 12's
And a Rockford Fosgate 400.2 Amplifier
I'm not going for super loud bass but more for just a nice good sound with some bump!
So I started with measuring the box to fit in the boot of the Mini but mine will sit about 3" higher than the panel/bumper is. Going to use the same fabric I used for my headliner for the box.
(Headliner)

Here is just the square box (We all signed it just for kicks and memories, even though it will be covered up! This is my first build on a subwoofer box!)
I used wood glue and silicone to seal the box.

I was planning on putting my Amp right in the middle of the two subs but turns out after drawing them on the top there was NO room left, so I thought maybe I will just put it on the seat and then I said nawww, I want this to look at least a little custom!
So I built something a little jazzzzzyyyy!

I had some random things laying around the house and somehow came up with this! The plexi/plastic is from a 8liner video game machine and I just cut out a top and bottom for the amp to sit in!
Now I have start wrapping the parts in my fabric, this is what I have done so far but my subs won't be here till Thursday or Friday so I can't go on because I need to make sure the subs fit perfectly in the box before I fabric the whole box. The subs with be upfired so this is what you will see when you open the hatch, I will put 1 white led facing at each sub and a blue led in the amp box glowing the plexi! Can't wait to be finished! I will keep everyone posted!
Also it fits perfect, the stands for the amp rack aren't bolted down yet and that's why they look crooked!

EDIT! FINISHED PRODUCT!
I'm glad I didn't carpet it because the holes I cut were a fraction to small and I had to make some adjustments! But here it is!

And here it is in the car! I really need to get a capacitor though, my lights are flickering a bit! It bumps though! And the best part about it is, NO RATTLE! I had to put some of those sticky pads that you use for cabinets under the amp so it wouldn't rattle in the plexiglass box. All I have to do now is go get the LED's to wire in, One blue on in the amp box and two white ones at each sub! I'm stoked.

Other than that, it slides in and out nicely but there is a certain way I have to take it out. I cut the top shelf a little where the amp box is so it would fit and now when the boot is closed you can't see my subs at all which is what I wanted! Only bad part is that on the boot panel, there is a big bulgy part in the center of the panel which is there for the rear window motor, but since I removed mine it serves no purpose and the boot wouldn't close cause the panel hit the amp so I just cut it out and I am going to fiberglass over it and repaint the whole thing so it looks good, right now there is just a circle cut out lol. But it looks great and sounds amazing! I think I did pretty good for my first box build!
And here it is again, clean slate!

I like it better because you can see the subs more, I am going to move the amp up some to cover the wood holding up the plexiglass though! Any idea on where I should mount the capacitor? I was thinking on top of the parcel shelf!
Here is a picture of it:

Total Cost:
$250.00 -Jensen VM9312 with harness and iPod cables, the mounting bracket
$200.00 for both Rockford Fosgate P2D412 12's
$150.00 for the Rockford Fosgate 400.2 Amp
$20.00 for the MDF board
$4.00 for the wood glue
$10.00 for 6 feet of fabric
Total: $634.00!!! I think that's pretty good! Still have to buy door speakers and tweeters though!
Actually, the stock door speakers surprisingly sound pretty good with the subs! I just turned the bass for them down and let the subs do all the work!
PS: Sorry the pictures aren't the best, I took them from my iPhone, I will take actual photo's once I do my LED's.

Nope, it's perfect! Sits straight up where I can see it, when watching movies there isn't a glare or anything, it's literally perfect! It covers up the temp and gas but I have the gas range on my tach so it's no biggie! And I can listen to music with the screen folded in so either way it works well! The screen also has 3 aux inputs and a back-up camera input (which I will be doing, planning on taking out my rear window wiper plug and putting a camera there!) maybe a ps3 too? Lol
For sure! You should! Like I said, if you need help with anything let me know! I have a shop with tons of tools and don't mind helping! It's going to look crazy once it's installed! I hope! They shipped my subs yesterday so we will see hopefully by the weekend!
I'm anxious to see it installed. For it being your first box build I must say it looks great! You seemed to do all the right things as far as sealing the box and everything. I don't know what you used to secure your fabric, but 3M spray glue always worked amazing for our club. It's about 9$ a can, but very worth it since it's so easy to use. I love that headliner as well. It should all look great after installation.
Good work, and I can't wait to see more.

I tried the 3M 88 because that's what I used on my headliner but it wouldn't stick very well on the wood for some reason, but I was also at the end of the can. I used some basic tacky glue on the little trim wood pieces and it made the fabric stick very well and was moldable to make sure it stayed tight. Worked great! I bought another bottle of it and was going to paint it on the box but I am going to buy another can of the 3M and try it cause it usually works good. But maybe because it's MDF and fabric not a carpet like you said. But I also never let it sit and get tacky so that could be why! I am stoked to get it in the car! Thanks for all the input and advice!

Well, your post got cut off, so I'm not sure what you were gonna say, but it didn't sound like it was going in a good direction.
We used 3M Super 77 spray adhesive and it worked every time. Spray the material on one side, and the surface to be covered...let it sit for a bit until both are tacky...then apply.
Thinking back though, never used it on thin fabrics. It was always thicker stuff like fleece or black trunk "carpet".

Subs are taking forever to get here, it still says billing information received on the UPS website so now it will probably be this week. I will keep ya posted!
Edit: Turns out, the company I ordered from is a terrible company and they have nothing but BAD reviews! DO NOT ORDER FROM DEALERCOSTCARAUDIO.COM!!!! SCAMMERS!!!
I have tried everything to get ahold of them and they ignore phone calls and emails, finally I called my bank and filed a dispute, they reimbursed my money and are going to take care of it. But it was funny cause I asked to cancel many times with no response and as soon as I said I filed a dispute they were like "tell them to cancel the dispute you money will be refunded within 3-5 business days" and I was like I will tell them to cancel once I get my money in my account and he complained and I finally just told him I didn't file one even though I did, if the money gets into my account I will call the bank and have them take their money they refunded me back. But I reordered the subs from a local Houston dealer and they have them in stock, cost me 30 bucks more but it was worth it and they will ship them tomorrow and will be here the same day since I live in Webster which is only 30 min from H-Town! Now I am stoked!

Impressive build, I really like it. I was wondering how the hatch was gonna close with that window motor bulge, haha. Are you gonna put the black checks on that panel too after you fiberglass?
Those LED's are gonna look great hitting the subs. Be careful with the brightness of the blues in the amp box. You don't wanna get pulled over because you have blue lights shining from your back window.
I bet that beats pretty hard. I have one 500W 10" and it's impressive so two 12's must be great.
My favorite song (at the moment) to show off subs is Juice Box by Gorilla Zoe. You should check it out.

Already have.
thanks a lot bro, I like it a lot. Good point on the cops as well, I know how they are around here. Like I said, I will take better pics one the LEDs are in!

Well, The amp kept overheating so I had to change it a little, went and bought a nice piece of plexiglass form Lowe's and had them cut it for me, I am just going to leave it open, it looks good and once the LED's are there it will complete it. But I have to buy a Rockford Fosgate Capacitor because my lights dim a lot, I found a 10 Farad for $160.00 brand new and it is cased to match the amp! But scroll back up to see the new amp slate!
