HD Radio - Autostore option

Hi,

I just took delivery of a 2009 Clubman S with the HD radio option. I seem to be having trouble with storing HD stations. I get the Autostore option, and only a single station, 89.3 shows as being available in HD mode. 89.3 shows on each "node" of the radio. I am able to store that station but no other station shows in HD mode. However when in FM "manual" mode, I have many HD options when manually scrolling. The owner's manual says to give at least 2 minutes to load HD stations, but I've waited at least 10-15 minutes and still only 89.3 in Autostore mode.

Can anyone clarify how I can store HD stations? I have the FM-Presets mode with regular stations already. This seems overly complicated.

Thanks.
GMF

It would also help us to know what city/town you live in so that we can verify the number of HD radio stations. I know in my area there is only two that I can pickup but there are about 12 Non-HD radio stations I can pick up.

Unless they've changed this since my 07, you can't store HD stations. Only the stations regular signal. No HD1 or HD2, etc are able to be saved directly as a preset. In my Nav equipped car, you have to be in manual tune mode to switch to an HD2 station. It automatically tunes in the HD1 signal if available.

Maybe that's still the case but the owner's manual says something about storing HD stations using the Autostore function. Thanks for the reply.

Nope. The 2009 Minis with the HD Radio option cannot save HD1, HD2 or even HD3 stations in any of the 12 presets. Only the analog version. The 2009 Convertible manual also states this. In all my research I've only found one HD Radio (JCW) that can actually store the HD1 channel only, all others only store the analog one.

The manual is slightly confusing about this. Mine has that function, Autostore HD. When selecting "Autostore HD" it autostores the 12 strongest digital stations. But It stores their analog frequency.

So, you're correct. There is an HD Autostore feature, and it works exactly as you describe, however once it switches to the analog channel, it will search and then lock into the HD1 channel (if any), and then switch to it. So basically, it looks for the strongest digital channels, it stores the analog version and it will switch to the digital station a few seconds later.

Here is why. The digital station takes 1 to 4 seconds to tune sometimes, so our radios (and most other HD radios) will always tune into the analog channels first, then switch to the HD1 offering. Now, what it doesn't do is allow you to save the HD2 or HD3 offerings, because there is no equalivent analog for these channels.

So basically everything we've describe in this thread is all accurate. We can't save the actual HD1, 2 or 3 channel, the autostore HD only stores the analog version of the strongest HD1 channels, but then switches to the HD1 offering once it tunes into it and third, while we all have HD Radio, the implementation is not what we all expected.

Exactly. It only auto tunes the HD signal if you have the HD radio enabled as well.
