Radio Issue Please help dealer is useless!

I have had an on going issue with my 2008 R56 Mini. It seems any time you shut off the car the radio and all the settings do a complete reset. All of the settings are lost. The radio defaults back to 89.9 the bluetooth connections are lost as are all of the audio settings such as bass and treble. I have had it in to the dealership several times and they seem to fix it for about a week. I am feed up with the dealership at this point as they are saying the appointment times are now 2 1/2 months out and then they constantly reschedule the appointments!!! What good is the service and the warranty if you can't get the car looked at in a reasonable 4-5 week time frame esp when they have never fixed the problem since purchase.

Any ideas you guys might have for a fix would be great. I don't mind taking the car appart and have /can get most tools

Can you elaborate on what your dealer did each time they looked at it?

This sounds like a classic case of one key fob being programed and the other not.

The key fobs hold the info for the radio and if one is fully programed and one is not this is exactly what will happen.

Check the manual for programing instructions.

Other possible reasons

1. blown fuse
2. disconnect of battery
3. bad relay circuit in the fuse panel block (yes it has a computer built in with relays in it)
4. bad battery in the key fob

Also where do you live and who is the dealer?

EDIT: also what packages do you have on your car?

Thanks for the replies, I have almost everything except for the NAV.

I have cold weather package, Premium package with dual sunroof, mini HIFI. Also Comfort Bluetooth and ipod, auto dimmin mirror, rear fog, HID xenon, ceter arm rest, DSC, Multi function steering wheel, sports steering wheel, Chrome line enterior, white bonnet stripes and leather lounge carbon black.

I only have one Key fob as the dealer lost the other during service (still fighting over that) but it is the only fob I have ever used since I bought the car new.

Dealer has
"
checked for diagnostic codes, owner states radio resets,
ipod not recognized

Ipod cable found to be lose connection."

Radio was found to seated incorrectly radio was reseated to stop rattling noise. "

They also said that they reflashed the system nothing specific on that.

I will go out and check the fuses. I have tested the battery and it comes up fine. Checked the battery connection also fine. Will check the battery in the fob.

I use BMW of Sterling VA. They were great up until about Oct of last year then they starting having problem keeping up with customer repairs and keeping techs to work on cars. They are also a 24/6 shop so they must be having tons of issue with BMW or Minis or both. The only other dealer is 60 miles away in MD. They are only 3 weeks out on appointments. Might be a option to tow it up with my cayenne and leave it for a week then tow it back.

I bet the fob resets it somehow. Too bad you can't try the other one to see.

OK so this issue is getting odd. No fuses are blown the fob seems to be ok with battery, the issue seems to be a time delay issue. If I make changes then exit the car and return within an hour the settings and radio are fine. If I leave it longer then everything resets. This has to be a computer issue where it is not getting voltagfe to save setting. OK now for the really odd thing.....the clock in the radio keeps perfect time.....no resetting ever.....I think I need an old preist a young preist and a chicken.....

You're dealer didn't replace the radio unit?
They did all that other stuff without trying a different radio?

Bring your car to another dealer.

I would love too but only issue is the other dealers are 75miles and 1 state away. I doubt they have a shuttle back to my state. I wonder if BWM of NA will help out. I think 2-3 months for a service appointment is just a little on the crazy side.

I guess I just wait unit alexandria opens. Does anyone know if this new delaership will be part of Heismans Porsche BMW? I have never had an issue with getting my porsche service down there maybe Mini will be just as good.
