Aftermarket Radio and Battery Problems
Okay here is my scenario
i have a 2008 Mini cooper Convertible S
i have added a Rockford Fosgate 360.2
rockford amps and 2 10 inch subs.
parrot bluetooth car kit and a dension ipod interface.
my problem is that i have random battery drains and for no apparent reason.
my audio was installed by a certified installer and we have all run out of ideas
the drain only happen at night and there seems to be no pattern.
i have been told the following
the drain may be caused by the 360 turning the amps on at night .
the bluetooth may be causing the drain .
i have had mini do numerous current draw test to see if the vehicle is the cause and they have said that everything is okay and it has something to do with the after market stuff.
I have also been told that there is no wire that can be used as a remote switch for the amplifiers and 360 as the head unit still works even though the ignition is on.
I have had the bluetooth replaced 3 times so this cannot be the problem. Can anyone help in terms of remote switch source to ensure amplifiers and 360 turns off completely once the ignition is off??
Any input would be much appreciated.

The problem is probably with your 306.2.
As Mini has stated and others here have found out there is not amp turn on line.
Even if the bluetooth stayed on all night it should not draw enough current to drain the battery in 16 hours.
I am guessing you are using the 360.2 for amp turn on, as this can be done. And the 360.2 uses an audio detect to turn the amp turn on line on. So what is probably happening is that the 360.2 is not turning off the amps sometimes when the audio goes away.
This may be caused my a ground loop or some other factor, such as the audio cables are run to close to a voltage wire that is turned on and off by the Mini during opening and closing of the doors or some other strange things the Mini does all by itself.
Also i have not been able to find an adjustment procedure for the remote turn on level. I am not sure it can be adjusted.
Also i have some questions for you.
Which audio inputs are you using, RCA or High Level?
Where is the +12vdc coming from for the 306.2, battery or switched in teh fuse panel?
My Mini is in the shop right now so i can not check, but the I blieve the Cigarette Lighter power is only on whent he car is on. How i now it turns off whenthe car turns off but i am not sure if the engine has to be running for it to be on. If it is on when the car is on and is not tied to the engine running then this would be a good sorece to use as a remote turn on for the amps.
If the cig lighter will not work for you then i suggest you check that the audio wires are run a minimum of 6" from any power wires or car harness, as these coudl possibly cause some hum or other problems with the audio line that is causing the 360.2 to turn on your amps. That is if they are hooked up that way.
Check these things and get back to us and we will assist more if needed. I also am interested in this as i will be putting a 360.2 in may car int he next few weeks.

Hi Schatzy62
thanks for the reply.
at the moment i am using the high level inputs to my 360 as i am using the factory fitted head unit.
i am not too sure where the 12 v dc line is coming from but, i am assuming from the battery direct. the certified dealer installed the system .
the funny thing is that i had a mini with an aftermarket head unit before this one and the exact same setup and , now for some reason the problem has started.
apparently the cigarette lighter has been mentioned in another forum but i seemed to pick up mixed reactions to this .
also apparently according to mini there is no source that will completely turn off once the ignition is off.( which obviously doesnt help)
it would be nice to here from someone technical from mini about this as they know the car best.
the dealership here are blaming my aftermarket stuff so they want nothing to do with it.
i have also tried to contact rockford tech , but they werent to helpful either .
cheers

this is a known problem with the 08 cabrio and the Parrot bluetooth. It was wired wrong and the instructions are incorrect. Call Parrot and they will tell you where the problem is, otherwise it will keep draining your battery as it does not allow the computer to sleep. There was a long thread on this issue in the first gen cabrio forum where this belongs as the 08 cabrio is first gen.

As stevehy said there is a problem with the Parrot Bluetooth and you were even in on the discussions about it back in spetember and october of 2008. Why bring it up again now. Go back and have parrot tell you what needs to be done, or read the thread that explains it all and have one of the forum members tha tfixed thiers tell you what needs to be done.
stevehy, I did notice that the thread should have been in the first gen forums but i figured i could help him out. I guess i should have looked thru the first gen forums to before giving advice. I don't go there as i have a gen 2 car.

No problem Shatzy, we just want to help. His best solution is to call Parrot USA directly as they really know of this problem and will explain that certain wires need to be reversed otherwise in ’08 models the computer will never sleep and there is constant small draw down on the battery,

hi steve
thanks for the reply.
any chance of showing me the thread or something.
the parrot kit was installed by the agent as that was the first idea we had and they have assured it has been done correct.
thanks

here is the thread that you responded to about this subject.

All i did to find these was go to the 1st gen cabrio thread and do a search on bluetooth. Easy as that.
