The snap-in adapter for the iPhone 3G..WITH smartphone prep (USB audio in the armrest) is FINALLY available in the USA.

My local BMW dealer just put one aside for me and I'll test it tonight!

I've been waiting MONTHS for this thing!

Apple iPhone 3G

Go buy one!

Let us know how you like it! My MCS is on order (with the Smartphone prep) and I have an iPhone 3G. I'm hoping if I send this part # to my MA I can have it when I pick the car up.

OK, it rocks.

I get the usual "This device is not compatible...blah blah" message, but the snap-in adapter charges the iPhone 3G perfectly.

Audio playback/control works perfectly. It's really nice not having the Y-Cable under the dash.

So you can navigate through playlists ect through the navigation kind of how you would a burnt mp3 cd?

How much is this thing?

Only drawback is it will be even harder to text and drive.

It should work the same as the USB port, as long as you have Smart Phone Integration (factory option 6NF) installed. If you don't have the smart phone integration, there's still a 3G compatible snap-in available, just without the USB connection.

MSRP is $175. Of course Niello MINI in Sacramento swore up and down that it retailed at $215.

I got it from Roseville BMW for $155.

I wish that there was a way to retrofit the smartphone prep.

I am sure it can be figured out. but the cost may be prohibitive.

This is something I would like to work on but with the temps still in the teens here when I have time to work on it it is going to have to wait a month or two.

Got my car yesterday, and just confirming that the iPhone 3G snap in with smartphone prep works GREAT! you get the nag screen, but works fine. i have the nav, and it takes just a sec or two for all my songs and playlists to load onto the display. well worth the $$ for seamless iPhone integration!

Morristown Mini Looks like the way to go

I checked with Morristown Mini and they said the correct part no is 84-10-9-182-792 and that the price was $93.56 plus 8 bucks for shipping.
Then I made a mistake and tried to call a few local dealers. South Bay Mini quoted me $120.00. Nick Alexander Mini was cheaper, they quoted me $116.20. What a bargain. I think I'll order it and wait a few days. 20 Bucks is almost a tank, even today.

You mean I'll actually be able to use my arm rest for something!?!? Wowie! I know what I'm buying as soon as I have cash again.

BTW, has anyone noticed any better reception with their calls as it was suggested we'd get with the cradle?

I haven't had the car without the cradle, but my reception has been perfect everywhere I've traveled so far...

...it's only been a week of traveling, but whatever

Did the 84-10-9-182-792 insert work for you? My local dealership is also telling me that is the correct part number for it (iphone 3G with smartphone prep). Thanks!

couple questions.

1) how do you know if your car is "prepped" and just needs the snap in?

2) Is there a snap in for 1st gen iphone?

I've got the 84-10-9-182-792 listed as for the original iPhone, for use without SmartPhone Integration. It's been available for some time, and the 3G versions have only been around recently- maybe you should double check by giving them 84-21-2-151-043 and see what they have listed for that part number?

The SmartPhone Integration is option code 6NF, but as far as I know, was only available on cars built from 9/2008. Based on the delivery date in your sig, I don't believe it'd be possible for you to have it. A dealership should be able to check based on your VIN though.

I've got all the part numbers for cradles that I know of in my spreadsheet, 1st gen iPhones should use:

No Smartphone Integration:
84 10 9 182 792

With Smartphone Integration:
84 21 9 164 213

Yep, I just got a call back from the dealer, they did some more research and found the 84-10-9-182-792 number is for an iPhone not the iPhone 3G. The part number ending in 043 is the correct one for the 3G w/smart phone integration.

Unfortunately, I thought we had ordered my wife's Clubman with the smart phone integration. But it turns out we didn't. I'd ordered one of the 043 inserts from Classic MINI and the music features weren't working. I checked the paperwork on my lunch break today and we only had the comfort bluetooth and USB Audio. We had ordered the MINI before we switched over the iPhone 3G.

What a bummer. I'm going to have to break the news to my wife this evening.

Sucky There's a couple threads around where people have extended the USB plug up to the armrest- you could probably still get the same effect?

whats the difference between with and without smart phone integration.

My guess is that if you have it, your album list shows up on the radio...

Without the smart phone prep, you don't get any music when using the cradle.

So, what's the final verdict??? I'm a bit confused by the entire thread above... Please help.

(1) If I only ordered 6NE which is the Comfort Bluetooth with USB/iPod with my vehicle, then I only have to purchase (84 10 9 182 792), right?

(2) If I do purchase (84 10 9 182 792) and plug my iPhone 3G into the cradle, will I be able to use the iPhone 3G from the center arm rest and will it use the antenna of the vehicle to boost signal or call clarity?

(3) If I do purchase (84 10 9 182 792) and plug my iPhone 3G into the cradle, will I be able to properly charge the iPhone 3G or will those intermittent charging issues still occur that we see with the "y" cable that comes with the Mini?

(4) If I do purchase (84 10 9 182 792) and plug my iPhone 3G into the cradle, will I be able to play my music off of the iPhone 3G when it's in the cradle using the MFSW controls?

(5) If I do purchase (84 10 9 182 792) and plug my iPhone 3G into the cradle, will I be able to play my music off of the iPhone 3G when when a call comes in, will it automatically switch to the call if I select Answer the Call from the NAV screen?

(6) If I do purchase (84 10 9 182 792) and plug my iPhone 3G into the cradle, then what if I have my 8GB USB Memory Stick always connected to the USB slot, would I still be able to use the iPhone 3G if a phone call comes in if it's in the cradle at the same time?

(7) Can someone please post a picture of this cradle with an iPhone 3G dock in it? I'm curious as to what it looks like, and how easy it will be to eject the iPhone 3G... I wouldn't want to leave it in the cradle when I exit the vehicle.
