Seeing the current list (iPod with USB)

With the 08 BlueTooth/USB option, the Y-Cable and a 1st gen iPod touch, I can't find anyway to see the current list (playlist/album etc) that's playing. Am I missing something, or is MINI missing this feature?

I just read the manual, what there is of it, and didn't find anything. Though there was a reference to a CUR button to get info about the current track, I didn't find that button. (Though I have found the TRACK button on the main display which sounds like the same thing.)

This is annoying especially as the 07 dealer installed accessory option can do exactly that. With that adapter you have to remember which of the number buttons on the main display does what, and 1 is Playlists, but over the right of the display is a "LIST" button which will show you the current playing list.

The 08 has a "LIST" button, but that's just the Playlist button (equal to the 1 button on the 07), it takes you to your list of playlists, not the current list being played.

Do you have the OEM NAV?

With out the NAV the screen is not big enough to see the whole list. But if
you just rotate the dial it should scroll thru the list. At least that is what my 08 Bluetooth USB with "Y-cable" does when attached to both my Gen 5 iPdo Video and Gen 2 Nano.

No Nav, it'll show 2 items at once, but its not showing me the list even 2 items at a time.

The question is, if you're at the main screen, how do you see the list its playing.

Assuming you've selected a playlist to begin with, you can always hit the "CURR" button return to it.

Like I said in the original post, I'm not seeing a CURR button, where does it appear?

This is from memory...

After iPod is selected as source:
1) go to lists and pick one
2) list contents is displayed 2 lines at a time
3) select a song in the list
4) now, I usually hit the "back" (curved arrow) button to go back to the top level menu
5) at which time I hit the "RND" button to randomize the playlist
6) select "list" again
7) on the far right (next to the back button) there should be a "CURR" button

So assuming you've initiated a list thru the headunit, you should be able to go back to it by hitting "lists" again... Hope that works for you!

I assume, if I can jump in, that these are "soft" buttons - different ones appear after a higher level choice is made?

That's about where I'm expecting to see it, and its not there.

I was sure I'd done this before, but I could be confusing it with the 07 (dealer installed) adapter. I do have 2 different Y cables, one of which I hacked in longer cables. I'll have to find the other one and see if it behaves differently.

These are soft buttons. The buttons you have change depending on what you're doing. They work with the radio, or other audio sources, with the phone and with the on board computer

With the new '12 MINI and the USB/Bluetooth I've found the CURR button again.

If you're at the main screen, press any of the selections (List, Art, Alb, etc) and along with your list of playlists, albums, artists etc you also get the CURR button. Pressing the CURR button takes you to whatever list you're currently playing, which is what I wanted. You don't even need to hit the currently selected button (the one with the tick mark next to it).

Example, I'm playing Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" album. I got there by pressing "ALB", then finding Pink Floyd and selecting that, then finding "Wish You Were Here" and selecting that, and selecting the first track.

Some time later, after restarting the car, the album is still playing. On the main screen "ALB" has a tick mark next to it. I can press LIST (or ART, or ALB), and my list of playlists appears, but so does the CURR button. Pressing the CURR button then takes me to the track list for "Wish You Were Here", and it shows me I'm playing "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" and there's no next track.

In your example, Have you found a way to deselect the album playing and go back to a total iPod random selection? I find that once an individual artist ( genre, album, etc) is selected, I cannot deselect it and get rid of the check. Thoughts?

You can't deselect a check, you have to check something else.
