Factory Nav question

I had the 2003-2 DVD disc in there and just picked up a BMW 2005-2 disc. No problems with it now, but was wondering is there a way to get the Mini logo back up on the screen when you get in the car, or uploading my own splash screen?

I am assuming that it is a file on the DVD that gets this up and going?

Thanks.

Do you see something instead of the MINI logo? Was the logo there previously, and stopped appearing? It is unusual without updating the firmware (which is separate from the DVD map disc). The logo should come back if you load new firmware. It is also possible to display your own startup picture, by hacking the firmware installer disc.

Look here for the general procedure to install firmware: http://mini.mdsbrain.com/?p=183
Look here for the latest firmware, and information about creating a splash screen: http://www.x5world.com/navigation-system/

Thanks for all the help guys. I went out to the car this morning and the Mini logo has returned. I guess it has now figured out it's BMW/Mini complex.

I did update the firmware (V31) a couple of days ago and the logo stayed, just was not appearing since upgrading to the new DVD.

This I am going to have to read up on. Splash screen change might be in order!

Is the brand new v.32 firmware that's referred to in those x5world threads applicable to the MINI Nav system?

I recall upgrading my firmware once before, but I have a vague recollection that I did it with a MINI-specific installer ... my nav system still boots up with a MINI logo at any rate, and I don't want the new firmware to replace it.

Also, does anyone know if the v.31 or v.32 firmware finally make the perspective view usable? The "hidden" version on mine is essentially useless, since it doesn't show street names when in perspective view.

Thanks!
Eric.

No change in the perspective view. The lack of street names also makes perspective view useless for me, and I never use it.

The firmware installers apply to both MINI and BMW, and don't affect the logo. The only MINI specific difference might be the hack to get the British voice. The documentation for the past few versions have indicated no updates for MINI units (only bug fixes for certain models of BMW). There has been mention of improvement for reading dual layer DVD map discs, but I think US discs are still single layer.

Many thanks for your reply! Can you post a link to the previous versions' documentation, to which you refer? I'm just curious to see it.

I may just leave .27 in there for the time being, if there's nothing to be gained by updating. What I really wish I could do is update the map DVD, since there's been so much freeway construction near my place. Unfortunately to my astonishment, the 2008-01 map upgrade is $199! Unreal to expect folks to shell out $200 for something I consider a safety issue: the current map always instructs me to make illegal turns, since the road configuration has changed.

I'd have expected more like $50. :(

I purchased my upgrade disc from ebay. Check there. I picked up a 2005.2 for $25

Sadly, the fix for the highway changes in my neighborhood is only incorporated into the 2008.01 disc. Even the 2007 disc, which I have, still has the wrong directions. So it's 2008 or nothing....
