DICE electronics iPod connector

I have a r56 w/o hifi. Will a Dice Electronics(I-BMW -T) work to connect my iPod? I used it in my 5 series and thought I would try before I did anything else.

The R56 changed over to the MOST bus, so the DICE iPod connectors won't work.

EDIT: Doh, past DICE connectors won't work, the RDS model linked below does, since it's an FM modulator and not connected to the car's network like previous models.

You have your choice of 2 kits:

DICE - Universal RDS iPod Integration kit for BMW & MINI

mObridge - iPod integration kit for MINI Cooper

Ok, incoming Noob question:

What the heck is DICE?
I googled,
I wikied,

Closest I get is something about getting names of songs to appear on the stereo readout screen?

What does it mean and why is it called DICE?

Thanks, Rich

Also, ICE is often used as an abbreviation for In Car Entertainment.

It's still way cheaper than a retrofit.

Actually the dealer quoted me $600 to retrofit the integration kit into the secret compartment. I'll just use the aux jack

The MINI kit is available for a bit less, but offers less features.

Sorry, I was comparing to a retrofit of the USB/iPod bit (which I've seen people report to be quoted $1000-1200), since the USB port is offered with the mObridge and it also bypasses the 250 track limit- yeah the iPod adapter that goes in the secret compartment is about the same.

Hey everyone, timely that I found this thread, as I'm looking at doing this on my own. A few questions:

- What specifically is the difference between the one you'd buy from the dealer and the ones offered here (ie. dice, etc)?

- Has anyone actually installed this on their own? If I buy the dealer-sold one, looks like the radio has to be programmed by the dealer. Can I not do this one my own?? (Info from: http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop...interface.html)

Thanks!

MINI iPod kit limitations:

- It takes a long time for the artists and albums listings to load. You can only see the first 250 artists or albums w/o nav and the first 500 w/ nav.

- You cannot shuffle play the entire library of songs on your iPod. You can only shuffle play the first 500 songs w/o nav and the first 1000 songs w/ nav. The solution to get around the shuffle play limitation is to create playlist containing 500 or 1000 songs.

- When you restart your car the last song playing does not start where it stopped, but starts over at the beginning.

The mObridge does not have these limitations.

Tom,
I had a couple of questions. Does the Mobridge allow full control via the steering wheel? Any additional requirements for install. I have the standard OEM CD palyer w/o Navagation. How hard is it to install? Have you sold the system to any NAM menmbers?Any chance of being able to look at the instructions?

We've sold the kits to a few MINIs, not sure if they were NAM members or not. All control is via the steering wheel or radio.

MFSW controls and steering wheel control are the same - the mObridge offers this. On a scale of 1-5, I would rate this as a 2.

Your MINI will need to have CD Changer programming in order to utilize the kit, this can be programmed at any MINI dealer.
