Navigation & Audio Bluetooth compatibility list
fupac,
Do you know what version OS you have? Mine ends in a 4 and it does not sync the address book?
Thanks,
Paul
Treo 680 Palm - unlocked seems to work
I went to pick up my MCS yesterday and asked the MA about pairing my Treo 680 to the BT+ipod kit in the car. Before I could explain that I had read troubling reports on NAM about Treo 650 and 755 phones frying the BT module, he said it he was sure it worked fine and proceeded to pair it right then and there.
This phone has BT stack 3.2D, and firmware 1.12.
My contacts did not load and I had no favorites stored but the phone makes and receives calls just fine.
The car does not have MFSW so I don't think there is a voice button but I was pleasantly surprised to see I can control the Treo through the phone's VoiceDial software.
This means I have to manually activate the Treo's voice software (press two buttons) but it allows me to access all contacts on the phonebook.
My only concern is whether the BT module will fry in a few months. Does any one have long term experience with the 680 on the Mini?

Actually, the Treo 650 seems to be okay- I think it's the one where I had a copy & paste error on the spreadsheet that went uncorrected for a while. So far out of the Treos only the 755p corrupts the Bluetooth module.
I don't think we've seen any reports on the 680 at all, let alone over a long term period. I'll check around to be sure and post if I find anything.

Thanks for clarifying about the Treo 650 nicknbecka!
The BT+voice dial feature is one I really appreciate in the car so I'm going to take my chances with the Treo 680 and I will report back in a few weeks.
I feel like the medical researcher who injects his own experiment into his body to see what happens. I hope the mini doesn't end up in the ICU after this...

Well, in this case, it was the dealer that performed the actual injection, right? In unrelated news, it looks like the Verizon xv6800 (HTC/UTStarcom/Titan/TyTN/Mogul/P4000/ohgodwhy/etc) released a Windows Mobile update
Might help out with address book syncs? There's no list of fixes yet...
Thanks sailorall- that's unusual, usually if the address book syncs up everything else is a go. Have you tried updating the firmware?
Are there any specific problems like garbled characters, or does it just not do anything once it's paired?
V06 Firmware Update for Sprint LG Rumor: Fixes panic code issue and improves text messaging user interface To update your phone, go to Menu > Settings > Tools > Update Firmware
Just nothing happens. When there is an incoming call, an icon is supposed to show up on the gps screen, but does not. When you say update the firmware, do you mean on the phone, the gps or both.
If the phone, how do you do that ?
Thanks,

Hmm- I don't remember getting an icon on the nav screen for an incoming call, but it should ring in the car's speakers at the very least. It might be possible for you to turn the ringing all the way down and not hear it?
The firmware update would be for the phone- the instructions was the quoted bit that was in my post:
It doesn't specifically address the Bluetooth functions, but not everything is always listed.

, or I'd check it to be sure.
SizeDoesMatter's been using the 700p for a few months without issue, and if you haven't seen it yet, there's an update for Verizon 700's.
Since the original discussions on the 755p's with problems, I've seen reports without any issues on the Treo: Centro (both Sprint and Verizon), 650, 680, 700p, 700w, and 700wx. Most of them are a few months old at this point, and the corrupted modules seem to happen within the first two weeks up to two months.

Samsung i760
I have the Samsung i760 and attempted to use it with my 2009 JCW. No joy. The handset pairs and will sometimes import the address book (sometimes not). Will voice dial. Will connect and allow ONE word which the called party can hear.. then neither party can hear anything. Sometimes locks up the system which requires a restart of the system/car.
Frustrating ... my wife's cheapo Samsung M250 works fine.
NicknBecka - thanks for the work you put into this thread!

Amen to that! I second the motion
Hi jedm3, I'm glad you jumped in with good news regarding the Treo 680. I was wondering if I was the last 680 user on the planet.
I'm quite happy using the VoiceDial software on the phone to make calls and access the phonebook without any issues thus far.
carpe diem!

Hello all,
I've had my MCS for three weeks now and its been a joy so far.
Just this afternoon I got in the car and the USB and Phone have gone non-operational.
The icons for both the USB and Phone are now displaying "--".
Up till now the USB has been flawlessly operating an iPod Nano.
The BT was connected to my Treo 700p by the Dealer's Service Rep.
It worked well but I have used it only a dozen times since getting the car.
Right now I have the battery cables disconnected and I'm waiting 20-30 min, hoping for a reset and for things to get better.
Any other suggestions?
Cheers and thanks

Can't help you Claymore, but thanks for your post. I had been toying with aksing my salesman to pair my 700p, but your post joins several others in suggesting that may not be the way to go. Sorry for your bum luck... Please let me know (or post) how the story ends--thanks.

Actually, just on the off chance, did you check out the Treo software update nicknbecka referenced above? Are you current with your software?
ThommyG, have you done the WM6.1 upgrade? It's pretty unusual to have a WM6 phone with problems.
The carphone allows me to save names and numbers through voice commands. It the less good category: Because the WM6.1 upgrade wiped my link to the company exchange server I had to reinput that.
Again I "repaired" My contacts database is huge (1900+) and the car 'gagged' on it, i.e., when I try to look at the phone's directory it tries for a bit but then just returns to the main phone menu. I spoke with BMW (the number in the radio/phone) and the person there indicated there is a limit of numbers that the car can inport probably about 1000. She thought if the import was working properly the first 1000 numbers from my handset should have been imported... so she doesn't believe its properly linking.
Thanks again for your help.

One day on my way home from work, both the bluetooth and my ipod stopped working. It was a very hot day and the car had sat in the sun all day. I was planning to take it in to the dealer the next morning. That evening, after the temps dropped, I went back out to the car and everything was normal again. No problems since.
My MA thinks it could be a heat related thing. Bad module or a bad connection. He noted it and if I have trouble again, I will bring it back. Now at 2 months and 2700 miles. No problems since.
How hot is it where you are? Does your car sit in the sun all day?
Hope this helps a bit.
Rich
Ok everyone...thanks for the info and sympathy.
Last night after re-setting the vehicle's electronics everything came back to life.
Yeah!
BTW I had updated the Treo's firmware before picking up the MCS, so I was on trying to follow the advice of the forum.
Cheers all.

Thanks for the follow-up Claymore! On my way to pick up my MINI in about an hour! Wasn't sure whether to try the Treo or not (but it's my only phone at this point). Your post gives me a bit more confidence!
