Verizon SMT 5800
I'm continuing on my quest to find a verizon wireless product that works well with Mini's BT.
I haven't been able to find anything within NAM on the SMT 5800. If anyone has any feedback on this phone's successes, please let me know. Also, anyone purchase an unlocked Iphone and using it with success through verizon?
I know the blackberry's and motorola's (no qwerty) seem to work well but I'm hoping for a qwerty keyboard and don't need pda functionality so I don't want to have to pay the data fee of $30 month (required for any blackberry) for something I don't need.
Its frustrating
... I'm ready to jump ship to another provider at this point.

Your best bet with Verizon is to try it. Most stores will nto let you out of the store with in until you have paid for and set it up but if it does not work then they will take it back and work with you to find a phone htat does.
Thanks Schatzy. I had a feeling that it wasn't as easy as purchasing an unlocked iphone. I know that changing carriers doesn't fix the problem. Verizon appears to have more issues than most carriers with compatablility. If I changed at all, it would be with At & t/ iphone.
If it wasn't for this forum, there would be no helpful information because the mini compatability list is outdated and verizon is of NO help. Some of these threads at least give you information about the good, the bad and the good, but...
Thanks for your insight, now if only I had my MCS to start trying some phone options, I'd be all good!

Isn't data service optional?

With verizon to get a blackberry or other PDA style phone you are "REQUIRED" to have a data plan.
Stupidest thing i have ever heard of but that is how it is.
Yes you are but i think kellypgh already knows that and there are new phones coming out all the time that take time to make it to the list.
The SMT5800 is not a standard Windows phone installation though and is from reports i have read very very difficult to add software to. And in there is lots of software that will not work on it as it is a phone with a keyboard and no mouse/joystick. It is great for those that want texting capabilities but not the large size or functions of a PDA.
That is an awful price jump on the cost of the phone to jump to an iPhone .
Th price o f the phone is what is keeping me from getting one. They phone probably only costs a few dollars to make.
The iPhone like all Apple products are way over priced for what they are.

Yep, HTC's have all been good so far, though I don't remember if anyone specifically mentioned that they were using them through Verizon. If you could install software on it, there's people that have reported that http://www.jetwaremobile.com/ has worked for adding better compatibility on WM phones.

Just read in another new review that the SMT5800 does not support "Object Push" so it is very likely that it will not transfer the Phone Book over to the Mini or any other hands free kit.
Why in this day and age they eliminate these functions is beyond me.

Sorry, just feeling snarky today. I know the list is short lots of the Verizon phones too. It seems that the Verizon phones that are out there are either massively popular or just a handful of people.

I second that! I called today just to confirm that the information I received in the store was correct because it didn't seem right... verizon, of course, blamed it on the manufacturer.

Which is really all that I need it for - texting and phone functions (not pda/email).

It is your list which has been a big help in determining which phones I need to steer away from.
Its just not as clear as to which ones work well with regard to the phones I'm considering. It has nothing to do with your data though. You are gathering the data provided from everyone here and putting it into a concise and understandable spreadsheet.
You have put a lot of hard work into that compiled list and it is definitely appreciated by me! Thanks for all the editing and updating, I will continue to refer to the list until I make a final decision on which phone works best.

Plus, it is worth every penny more (and I have the original one that I got for $400) than it was for my old SLVR. I swear I use every feature on the phone and it is just lovely having the whole internet at your fingertips.

If anyone's out there with a Verizon Voyager (LG VX10000), it looks like there's a new firmware being rolled out ending in V09. It's supposed to fix some bugs and make the phone more responsive, in addition to adding Rhapsody support. Beware that upgrading wipes the phone's data:
For the V09 "refresh" upgrade, which adds Visual Voicemail, note that it will erase all Get it Now games and applications from your phone. For more details, see this news article. You will need to obtain a service credit after re-downloading any purchased content.
What would help it work better for what you wanted? Maybe a drill-down type search like:

It would definitely help from the aspect that the same phone appears to behave differently from one carrier to the next. You have great notes specific to that though. What I meant by my comment was that there are clearly some phones that are not compatable by your list but some of the data is limited due to mixed or inconsistent feedback or not there at all because the phone hasn't been evaluated or feedback hasn't been posted.
I did notice that you don't have a Verizon category. Verizon seems to have their name on several phones but maybe they are on the list and I don't realize the manufacturer of the phone. As an example, the one I was asking about in the earlier post, SMT 5800. I'm not sure who the manufacturer is, but I didn't see it on the list. I assumed that no one has given any feedback on this model yet.
When my wife sync'ed the phone w/her Outlook @ work, it pulled in all her work contacts; a few hundred numbers. When I mated the phone to the car today, the phonebook sync never succeeded. That's probably the case w/a lot of phones.
...just provided as an FYI for the archives.
ENV2 VX9100
Also wanted to post some results for LG's ENV2 VX9100 phone. Just got my 2008 MCS. It's awesome! Regarding the phone's compatibility, it hooks up fine. Calls are answered with no problems, but the phone book doesn't upload. No big deal for me. I can call out through my phone and talk through the speaker so I'm happy.

It seems the upgrade is mostly for Video Mail and that is not a free service it costs $2.99 a month. Although it does seem to correct some of the slow response issues with the phone.
Besides, it'd make managing the list quite a bit easier, it's getting rather unwieldy.

No one has any thoughts on the Blackjack II? I should be getting mine today.
I know it's compatible with the bluetooth in the car, just wondering what people who own one think about it. Thanks...

UPDATE on Verizon Motorola V9m - Better synching of Phonebook
I have previously posted about my Motorola V9m. Did a good job syncing to the MINI BT. One problem was that the MINI BT did not recognize the catagories of the numbers listed under each name (ie: home, work, mobile). So I had to manually go into my phone and list each number under a separate name to be able to recognize it on the MINI.
Yesterday, I apparently broke the glass screen on the phone (don't know how), but Verizon was very nice and gave me a new V9m today and transfered my numbers.
I just synced it to the MINI without a problem. As usual, it took a few minutes for the Phonebook data to transfer to the MINI. But when it did, each number in the MINI phonebook now has a W, M or H (work, mobile, home) next to it to signify the type of number it was catagorized as on the Phone. I guess they upgraded the software or something in the month or so I had the phone.
It doesn't help me much since I already renamed all my numbers on my phone under separate names for each Work, Home or Mobile number. (That was a pain!) But this info might help others just getting this phone.

Looks like it will/does run Synergy for an OS, and the specs list the appropriate Bluetooth profiles, so it theory it should work. There's no guarantees though.
I did find the profiles and the Z9 has all those listed for them V9m and then some. I am taking those sheets over to AT&T this morning and see what they have to say.
I am hoping you are correct about the profiles and OS...thanks for the help.

The only way to be 100% sure that it is going to work is to try it. Many of the LG phones have the correct profiles but still do not work.
