Mounting GPS to left of steering wheel?

I have a Magellan GPS that I want to mount over the PB portion of the dash to the left of steering wheel. My height and seat position offers a great line of site through the steering wheel to that location.

This is what I've found:
Kuda and ProClip mounts both look good, but are not offered for placement to the left.
The coat hanger in the vent trick seemed promising, but I couldn't get stable. I think the design needs to have the GPS above the dash to be stable.

My questions:
I think I have a solution involving zip ties. Is there a DIY step by step to remove that dash panel on NAM? I can't find it.
I have heard that dealers were offering a portable Gamin unit that mounted in that position. I'm sure I could modify it somehow. Has anyone gotten a hold of one?

I wired my Mio C220 on the left side on the dash, and routed the wiring through the spaces around the silver color line plates. Everything fits neatly with no cables hanging by the stick or the steering wheel.

Great news! How did you make the attachment to the dash and could you take a couple of pictures? I'd be most grateful.

Removing the driver side dash trim is easy. I followed unixgal's instructions when I installed my Kuda mount.

Nice. I would like to seem them pics. Also, I just had my GPS stolen. Is your GPS easily removable or is it stealth enough?

Is this compatible with the R56?

I thought the left dash mount of a GPS makes it really obvious you have one. Just walking by the car you'll see the mount in place.

I never noticed the Mini Do More tach bracket wasn't shown on an R56. I'll see what they say about it.

Mini2na, you can buy the mounting hardware from Mini with the GPS. For either the R56 or R53. See this thread for part numbers.

@lacning74,
I like the way you routed that behind the panel. I'll have to see about altering mine this weekend.

Turns out it's not for the R56 and they don't currently have a version for it. Sorry about that.
