Garmin 360 MINI Mount Modification.

Has anyone successfully modified the mount that comes with the Garmin navigation unit for the R56 to work on the R53?

If so, how did you do it or would you do it to mine?

No need to, just use the one that MINI has for the R53! Do a search and one of the threads has the part number.

I haven't been able to find a part number. I didn't think it was made for the R53. That's what the sales manager at my dealership told me.

EDIT: Found the part number on Motoringfile. Ordered!

Wow...quick reply! I also have the tach and speedo together, so where will this actually mount and will it still work?

Can you post pictures here of it installed when you get it? Thank you very much!

and if you use your own Nuvi, make sure to get ahold of the MINI icons so your MINI shows up on the maps. .. .

It's a little off topic, but... if you haven't purchased a mount yet, check out proclipusa.com

They have a nice system for mounting the NUVI to the MINI. It is a two part system. You order both the clip that is specific to your car ($30) and the mount that is specific to your navigation unit ($30). They screw together and make a nice cohesive mount that puts the NUVI onto one of the pillars on the center stack.

That's quite a bit cheaper than the MINI mounting scheme and your view of the NUVI isn't hindered by the steering wheel.

Also check out the Kuda mounts. I love the one we have for my wife's Nuvi. . . . They are a little more expensive than the proclips but still a lot cheaper than the MINI brand one and it is covered with leather.

I looked into this too. They don't make a bracket kit for any MINI with the chrono pack (tach and speedo on steering column). So I went with the KUDA. I really like that I don't have to reach anywhere near the wheel to access the NAV and my passenger can access it and swivel it toward them too. Here's my install with the KUDA mount for a NUVI 360 and an iPod Touch.

The Kuda one is nice but which one is this then? Doesn't look like the dual gauged MINI's can use this mount.

That's the MINI factory mount. It attaches to holes on the back of the tach. If you have the chrono pack it doesn't work and the arm is not long enough to get the NAV past the gauges.

Thanks MINI Bee! I just got my hands on a NUVI 350 today for $299CAD. Its a decent price for us north of the boarder. I do have the chrono package so I guess the MINI mount is out of the question. I'm thinking to modify a mount where you have placed your iTouch.

Great instructions here for this mod:

My new Nuvi 660 will be here by Friday and I am very excited to get my first GPS. Are people not using the suction cup mount that comes with the Garmin?

I used mine at first but wanted a more permanent solution with a hardwire install. A few times the suction cut let go in the Florida heat so that was alarming. I now only use the suction cup in my wife's car or in rentals.

In California and Minnesota it is illegal to have anything mounted to your windshield.

This is why the ProClip mount was purchased for justacooper.

Does the suction cup mount not work on the area of the dash just above the mount below?

Anyone have the mounting instructions for the R53 Garmin Mounting Bracket? I can find the R56 but not for the earlier model.

Thanks!

I've got my own nuvi, and would LOVE to get the mini icon to show up. Do you know where/how to get these files? Thanks so much.

Is there an instruction sheet on what to do with these files once down Loaded? Computer challenged with a new Mac-pro and new Nuvi760. I'm over my head.
