Anyone Figure Out How to Retrofit The New USB?

Seems like a great option to the expensive iPod adapter.

iPod around here is $850-1000

I thought some people on the board already got their cars with the USB jack, no?

I believe that the way to get this option is to remove all four wheels and replace the rest of the car.

There are some people who claim to have it posting in the Nav/Audo forum. I don't recall whether they were USA folks or not.

The USB-claimers in the NAV/Audio forum are for USA builds delivered in Europe.

You can keep the floor mats too!

Someone just posted that a dealer quoted them $2000.00 to install the factory bluetooth option. Adding the USB port would make for some additional modification, so I'd imagine it to be even more.

bump...

I am very interested to see if anyone knows of a USB retrofit. I really want the USB (for memory stick MP3 playback so I leave the stick installed and do not have to mess with the Ipod connections), but have little need for the limited phone connectivity bluetooth option.

I am very tempted to use the $500 on a Garmin Nuvi 660 instead, with a friendlier bluetooth and has MP3 ability through SD card...

I would also be interested in a retrofit solution for the USB.

+1

Has anyone taken apart an 08 to see if it is just something as simple as a missing cable as was the solution for the 1st gen aux input. I know that may be an overly optimistic view... but hey maybe it's possible.

That would be awesome if the jack replacement is all that is required to make this work.

The diagram says part number 61346930561 - price $19.20 - from 10/2006 - I would imagine that is for the Aux In only.

P/N is shown as 61319129651 if you look for it under BMW: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=61&fg=35&hl=4

It would be hilarious if you only needed the part, plus of course a $2000 software update.

This would sure beat the $500 USB BT option!! Somehow I believe the BT module would have something to do with it. Is there a way to see what the USB is wired to? I am hoping some 08 new arrivals can take a peek.

You guys got my curiosity up,called the head tech guy at my dealer and there are no plans as of now to retrofit the USB port and yes if they do,they will have to program the car to let it know it exists just like the interface...oh well..

For those of us who already have the factory BT module without USB, this may be worth a try, if it doesn't work, oh well.

The date on OEM site says for after 3/07? I bet ya peeps that got Sirius installed had to have their software re-programmed, I bet you the USB would work with their new new programming. Us older programmed dudes might be hosed.

My local BMW dealer quoted me $60 on the USB port. That's for just the part. I am not sure that I want to gamble with that much, but if anyone else does please post your results!

Just buying that part is going to do nothing. What are you going to plug it into?? I highly doubt the USB port has anything to do with the BT module. BT is a wireless device, and is located nowhere near the stereo console. Just a thought.

I'm certain the part will do nothing. USB and BT both require hardware and software to operate. The two functions may very well have been integrated through a chipset or module from the parts supplier. If they were completely independent, it would have been to MINI's advantage to offer them as separate options.
