I'm sure the cable itself is a part... the 2008 models I've seen with the Aux/USB have a cable in a shrinkwrapped bag. It's gotta be out there somewhere. :-)

You may want to put in a voltage regulator for protection. I don't know about specifically for MINI, but generally in cars the alternator can cause surges as high as 16V.

On MINI2, UK owners reported that their USB option doesn't include the cable and they have to purchase it separately. It costs them £40 (about $80).

Any mention of a part number from the UK owners. I haven't been able to find on as of yet.

I wouldn't buy the iPod cable until you've verified that the USB works with a memory stick. Nobody has demonstrated a successful retrofit yet.

For one of the iPod setups, the USB cable goes to the iPod system box then connects to the CAN bus for control and the AUX line for sound input.

Another way they could have done it is with a stand alone USB controller that is controlled by the CAN bus (for MFSW integration) and uses the MOST bus (fiber-optic) for the audio/data transport and additional control.

You guys seem to be looking for the cable from the back of that "retrofit" usb and aux audio port part, right?

BUT, have you first found where that cable (if found) would plug into?? I would find that first. Reason being, I'd guess you won't have anywher to plug it into. I'd bet there was no USB input on either the bluetooth or stereo head unit for the early models (like mine). Otherwise they would have gave us the usb port in the first place, no?

Just a thought. Hope I'm wrong, would love to add the USB port.

I got this response from MINIUSA today...

Thanks for contacting MINI. We appreciate your inquiry.

Unfortunately, there is not a retrofit available at this time. I suggest keeping in contact with your MINI dealer for future updates. I'm sorry for any dissatisfaction my answer may cause.

The part about keeping in contact with my MINI dealer leads me to believe one of 2 things.
1. A retrofit is possible, or
2. The CSR has no idea what I am talking about.

With my experience with MINIUSA, my vote goes to #2. And, I'll add, that was a standard form reply (copy and paste text).

I have found miniusa useless, and non-supportive to the customer.

Does anyone have a full wiring schematic of the 2007 and 2008 mini? this seems like the true place to start.

I think the USB goes to the bluetooth module under the left seat
Dont take that as gospel though

I finally got around to pulling out my aux jack and poking around behind it. So now I can verify that there is no cable back there even for cars with the bluetooth module installed at the factory.

I suppose it depends on the size of your hands. I took off the trim piece next to the aux jack, then fished my hand around trying to unlatch the jack... Cut my hand a little trying to reach the far side, but got it out after a while.

I have lamented that my MINI was produced a few weeks too early to receive the USB..... No, strike that. I have lamented that MINI did not introduce the USB a few weeks earlier.

While looking through the Vendor Announcements I found a USB retrofit kit that works through the antenna leads, displays on the stereo screen, but needs a supplied remote to navigate. They also have an iPod option.

Not perfect, and with someone actually coming to market with the solution it does not bode well for an easier, integrated solution utilizing plug and play.

What part are you looking at. If it is the USB connector in the center console only then yes the dealer will want more than $50.00 but you can get it from Pelican Parts or Penske Parts for about $37-$38. If yours i broken then replacing it is not a problem but it you are trying to add USB to a car that does not have that is another story.

Your signature says your car is an 09 MCCS. If that is the car you are trying to add USB to then the if you did not get it from teh factory then the car is not set up for it and the ULF module does not have the proper configuration for this. There is also a wiring harness missing. So to add USB to that car will be in excess of $1000.00

What year is your car? if it is an 2007 then you will have to change the radio unit out and add the proper ULF module. In that case the cost will be in excess of $2000

If the car is an 2008+ then you will need a ULF module see my comments to zminicoooper above.

From the ETK it looks like if your build date is 8/07 you should be able to add the ULF module and the Retrofit kit for the bluetooth. I did the retrofit to my car a couple of months ago and love it!

Here is a link to the retrofit kit. It is valid for build dates between 8/07 and 8/2010. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=65&fg=95&hl=2

Kit seems pretty reasonable - I'm assuming your car had to be reprogrammed, how much did that cost?
