Garmin still thinks it's in Colorado?

We flew to Colorado from Florida and then back. Took the Garmin to help with navigation. It took a while after we got to CO for it to recognize where it was - still had the last location in FL. It finally did start reading CO. Now back in FL it still thinks it's in CO. Don't know how to get it reset. Anybody know? Thanks.

try taking out the batteries (and disconnecting the power cable) and force it to 'reboot'...

The wifes' i5 can take for ever to refind the sats. even on clear days in open fields...

even if we only move 10 mi from its last location...

HTH.

I don’t know what model you have, but the newer Garmin units have a reset button. You might try that and see what happens.

But beware using the reset button - it will delete anything stored in 'My Locations.'

Try > menu > navigation > reset. BUT you will loose all your favorates. You first might try, >menu > go to > my location.

Probably best just to go back to Colorado! Just kidding, remove batteries (if it has removable ones) or reseting it should do the trick. It sounds like its just not seeing the sat's yet. If you have time just let it sit and try to locate where it is for awhile, I had to do that the last time I used mine, took about 10 minutes.

On my 60CSx there is an option to find a 'New Location' by pressing 'menu' on the satellites page.

I've had similar issues with my Nuvi after flying with it... sometimes takes up to 20 minutes or so in an OPEN space to find itself...

That's pretty good time. One of my friends back in the 60's took 20 years to find themselves! Wonder if having the gps turned on while flying would help it keep from keeping lost.

Take it to an early bird meal. It should know exactly where it is then.

Thanks for the help. Garmin Nuvi 350. We have been back for 4 days and it finally did reset. I had it turned on inside house and in the car but not mounted. The square piece that flips up on the back to mount it in the car is actually the antenna (when all else fails - read directions) It needed to be pointed to a clear sky for a few seconds and - voila!

Yep - that's fairly common. If you travel more than a few hundred miles with the GPS turned off, it has to go through a "cold-start" initialization procedure again the next time it's turned on - locating satellites with no good idea of where they *should* be, re-downloading the ephemeris data ,etcetera. If the GPS is only a few miles from where it was the last time it had a satellite lock, the start-up is a lot faster, because it already has a good idea of where the satellites should be in the sky.

Oh, and when you had the GPS turned on, but with the antenna folded down, you didn't notice the big "GPS OFF" banner at the top of the screen?

Scott - thanks for input. Ignorance exposed...yes, I did see "GPS is off" but fiddled with every menu and setting and couldn't figure out how to get "GPS on". Raising the antenna was the trick. As they say - now I know. Thanks again...problem solved.

Well, to be fair, Garmin doesn't give you a paper manual with the Nuvi, or even a manual on CD. The owner's manual is stored on the GPS itself, so you have to connect it to your computer and browse around for the file.
