Membership

Q: How long is the membership for?
A: Each membership is for one year from the day you join. For example if you join March 1, 2008 your membership will be through February 28, 2009.

Q: What is the cost of a membership?
A: Each membership is $40.00 per year. From whenever you join you'll have a year of membership.

What you are not told is this is a recurring charge and you will be billed every year till you cancel.

I'm sure it's in this fine print somewhere but I missed it till I received my statement from PayPal. There are instructions in the emails from PayPal on how to cancel but there no tab on my PayPal account like what is mentioned in the email.

Once a member you might just be a member for life, don't lots of **** sites work like this?

To be honest I hadn't planned on offering Paypal support since we've had our own merchant account for several years. That said I received a request and turned it on and didn't notice that subscriptions worked this way. I did research this tonight and found that I can view the subscriptions from my Paypal account and cancel them in the event you don't wish to renew at the end of your year.

I'll add a note about this for the payment via Paypal in the FAQs as well as one about how to cancel the recurring subscription if you don't choose to renew before the next year.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention!

I can find no way on my PayPal account to stop this from recurring, I guess I'll have to call them what fun.

I've got a subscription to another site, and I'm thinking the method is the same. This is how I got to it:

On your My Account Overview page, under "Recent Activity", click on the Details link beside the payment to NAM.

You should be brought to a page that says something like:
Subscription Payment Sent (ID #XXXXXXXXXXXXXX)
In reference to:S-XXXXXXXXXXXXX

Where that S-XXXXXXXXXX is a link. Click on that link and it should bring you to the subscription page. At the bottom is a button that says "Cancel Subscription".

Hope this helps!

EDIT: Option #2!

From your My Account Overview page, click on Profile, and you'll have a Profile Summary. Under Financial Information, click Pay List, and it should list all active merchant relationships, and you can click on the subscription there and cancel it.

I can cancel it from my side. I'll do this in the next few minutes and you should see a confirmation come through. Thanks!

BTW - I added did add a FAQ and process for resolving this. I'm also going to look into altering vBulletin's code to make it a one time payment when using Paypal and the system start sending out reminders to renew when you get close to your renewal date.

I just cancelled Michael's subscription above. I'll also add info about how you can cancel it yourself to the FAQ. Thanks!

I, to would prefer to manually renew each year (prompted by an e-mail). I just don't like auto-withdrawls coming out of my bank account. If I cancel through paypal, would I still get an e-mail when it is time to renew?

I changed the Paypal payment option to be non-recurring. You should receive reminder emails a few days before it expires. If you don't let me know and I'll look into it. Thanks!

Larry - can you tell me more about what you are thinking? I've spoken to our local club and they had an interest in piggy backing on Alliance so that we would handle their member subscriptions and renewals as part of the Alliance. This may not be what you were thinking so let me know what thoughts you have.

Except for new members that joined in the last couple of days everything was shipped on Wednesday. I would expect you should see them starting to show up on Saturday or early next week.

I had to swing by a certain local vendor to pick up some stuff for our club and noticed they had produced the badges for the Alliance. I have to say, those waiting to get their badge will NOT be disappointed. Those badges are SUPER HIGH QUALITY and super THICK. The best I've seen.

Glad that you like them. I wanted to do one that was super sticky and wouldn't fly off at speed.
