Difficulty reading/writing software

First, I love the effect that that the Tuner file had on my car. Very nice!!

I just wanted to check thouhg, did anyone else have difficulty reading and writing the files with Cartune? It took me two days and about 20 attempts to write the software to the ECU and about 3 hours and 7 attempts to read it. I think it might be the laptop I used. It is and older IBM Thinkpad. Never had problems with it, use it to run Digimoto on my MCS.

Just checking to see if it was jut me or not.

Could it have anything to do with which version of Windows you're running?

Not according to MTH. I am running XP Pro, fully updated. That was something I had thought of and made sure I had all of the updates, a few of which I hadn't downloaded. It didn't seem to make a difference though.

I have not had this problem, but some issues that have been discussed before include:
  • cable issues (different quality)
  • cell phones around computer during download
  • make sure all peripherals in car are turned OFF
  • dome light turned off (i.e. car door open and light not manually switched off)
I'm sure Volker and others can chime in with other possibilities.....

Let us know when you chase down the issue.

I thought of the cable, but I have no way to test it other than to let someone else use it. I am willing to give that a thought. I also want to find someone with a different laptop to try on my car with my cable, to see if the problem is somewhere there.

Interesting to find it took that long to sort out. Ive done MANY MINIs with no problem at all. Best thing to do is make sure alllllll of the electrics like the stereo, AC, SAT NAV, basically everything must me off when the ignition is turned on. Also dont press any of the buttons in the car while the upload/download is in progress, like the stereo, interior lights, electric windows. As ive seen upload problems when this isnt adhered too.

See also https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=50029 for hints and tips from Tradiuz who is your main US agent who should be able to help

Make sure your computer has the anti-virus, wireless, and any other background tasks turned off...

Also, make sure that all your settings are correctly made!

I've had problems with uploads 3 times, but the last 2 upload went without a single problem, using Kent's computers (another MINI owner!)

I'd also make sure that you don'T touch the cable during transfers...

Very important, too! Make sure your laptop is fully charged and the cars battery as well. It helps a lot to hook the cars battery up on a charger whilst loading files!

Ignition on pos. 2 - engine NOT running!

After a failure, just wait a few secs till you hear a clicking noise out of the dash - then try again.
