Coworker in the Carolinas has one, raved about it convincingly. Love having a small sized car with a big heart (and a solid turbo).

Tech talks, weekend events... I want to learn more about tuning this type of vehicle and I enjoy socializing with anyone who simply enjoys what the car +colorado have to offer.
WHAT can MINI5280 do for you?
I would love to know who the best part suppliers and mod shops are in town. For example, I would love to upgrade the bushings I but don't have the necessary tools in my meager garage. Any guidance on local service providers would be invaluable.

Name's Lucas. I joined NAM about a week ago. We (My GF Sarah & I) have had the MINI for a couple weeks now.
More info, as requested:

• WHEN did you get your MINI (or Mini)?

Picked it up on the evening of April 20th, 2010.

• WHAT is your MINI or Mini's name?

The Blue Danube reference
Or... "The n00b" or "Newbie" for short.

• WHAT color or colors is your MINI?

Laser Blue (body & roof)

• What options did you get on your MINI?

Premium Pkg, Premium Sound System, Cold Weather Pkg, Factory Mechanical LSD.
Aftermarket 17" wheels wrapped in Falken ZIEX performance tires.

• WILL you be doing modifications to your MINI or Mini?

Yes. Starting off with stripes then a Xenon/HID upgrade. (having trouble sourcing projector housings...)
Performance mods will be minor, so as not to void the 100K mile warranty. Perhaps DDM intake, Strut tower bar(s), upgraded rear swaybar.

• WHERE did you get your MINI or Mini? New? Used?

Used (14K miles // 2007 model) at a small dealership in Longmont

• WHY did you get a MINI or Mini?

Sarah has wanted one for years, and began talking more seriously about it over the past 6 months. After checking some out at the Denver Auto Show a few weeks ago, the hunt began in earnest.

• WHAT part of town will you be seen in?

Up north, mostly. (Thornton / Northglenn areas)
Also, we plan on taking regular weekend drives towrds the mountains. (Golden, W. of Boulder, and in-between)
Sarah works in the DTC, so you may see her/it/us there as well.

• WHAT types of events would you likely be involved in? (choices are things like weeknight events, food rides, mountain rides, autocross, track days, weekend events, food only, tech talks, etc. Feel free to make up your own.)

Weekend events, *possibly* some things during the week, mountain rides, tech talks, & other meets / cruises as we're able.

Just keep getting the local enthusiast community together, as you've been doing for years!

Funny you should say that, d0r33t0s! We were considering some black/near-black options for a bit. (For the full story, see my 1st Gear thread.)
Ultimately, the lady got her bright blue MCS (Sarah's 1st choice in color) and seems quite pleased! With all this rain lately, I haven't had the chance to fully polish it up the way I'd like for pics...

 

Welcome to the site, I live up in Thornton(usualy) and look foreward to meeting some of you guys, when I get back to the states in 2011.

The whole Black paint thing is nice to look at, but in all reality it is a P.I.T.A. to keep clean(unless it never leaves the garage, and what fun is that) After owning 5 black cars I will never own another one just for that reason. I like the Lazer Blue it really gives the look at me factor, it would be my number 3 pick of colors, following Dark Silver, and Indy Blue.

For mountian drives, west of Boulder heading up Boulder canyon there is a road on the right(just after the tunnel) called Four Mile Canyon, this is the kind of road the MINI was built for, and is highly recomended. Just keep your speeds reasonable, watch for the idiots on bicycles, and take the dirt half to Gold Hill slowly. (If you go streight at the stop sign in Gold hill, the road is verry steep but runs into pavement at the bottom, take another right and it will get you home VIA Lefthand Canyon) This is my personal favorite drive route, enjoy it but, respect it, there aint much gaurd rail.

Thanks for the welcome and the recommended driving! I think I've passed that road once or twice on my way up to Eldora/Nederlands. We may have to take the split sometime soon, but only after I familiarize myself a bit more on roads I've driven. (like Lookout Mountain)

Oh, and... Frank123, I think we may have spotted "Schultzy" on the lot at Schomp just before you took possession. I admired the color, but -alas- a convertible was not on the menu. Is it an auto, by chance? Seems they had quite a few of them on the lot that week...

Took delivery of the keys on May 3rd, 2010; saw it unto a transport and had it shipped back to Denver from the Los Angeles area. Picked it up this morning (May 6th) in Littleton at Ralph Schomp BMW.

• WHAT is your MINI or Mini's name?

Nothing official yet, but it'll have the same quirk as the "Turbo-Tomato" Jetta did; maybe the "Blue Bomber" or something to that affect...

• WHAT color or colors is your MINI?

Laser Blue Metallic (including roof and mirrors) with Sport Black stripes.

• What options did you get on your MINI?

Oh my, there's a ton; the previous owner literally hit every option during his build process; it's got literally everything... I think; where the build sheet he gave me?!?

• WHERE did you get your MINI or Mini? New? Used?

Used, but barely; it's a 2009 JCW Clubman with some 54xx miles... The owner bought it in April, received it in August, drove it to November, and had it stored since the purchase in a climate controlled warehouse.

• WHAT can MINI5280 do for you?

Some have met me during the 2009 Yalla Yalla and the monthly euro GTG's that rotate locations every month. I'm in need of alot of 2nd-Gen tech info; there's alot to be known about these things and I'm wanting to get it right the first time around.

Not to my understanding, no.
I've been led to believe that MINI did away with the fully mechanical LSD in recent years. Yours being a 2009 JCW, it should come standard with EDLC (Electronic Differential Lock Control).
They're still marketing an LSD option for all Coopers these days, but I suspect they're all electronic now. Not sure if one is superior to the other, honestly, but your LB/LB outshines ours in pretty much every other aspect ...so I had to tease.

Erik, I'm fairly certain your JCW would have the mechanical LSD, but the best way to be certain in to call a dealer and give them your VIN. They should be able to tell you for sure.
